Whether it is or isn't for "hacks", Zemeckis is staunchly against revisionism on home video for his older movies. One of the most ardent directors in that space.

The downscaled 4K transfer for BTTF Part II is back on Netflix.

Agreed, there is a BIG difference between the Star Wars Special Edition revisionism VS the Star Trek TOS and TNG revisionism but Zemeckis is against both. What ever your option is on revisionism we can all continue to thank Zemeckis as his attitude has kept out worthless remakes, reboots, sequals, prequals, and censorship. I think that is a happy balance we can all live with

There’s a difference between editing and censoring, it’s no different than when a network edits out all the cursing from movies when show.

How? Did they just completely blur out Jessica Rabbit or something?

Too true, although I myself would love Micheal I Fox and Lea Thompson to step back in to their character's older versions to reshoot all of those scenes...but that is all I would change and as an alternate viewing.

Here it seems that storywise the theatrical version was Zemeckis' favored version and it was only trimmed to a PG-13 rating for marketing reasons. The new material completes the movie, especially the fight sequences with Grendel are less edgy.
Not a refutation of previous stances from Zemeckis to have an unrated cut released on home video he edited at the time of post-production -- We're talking about upgrading special effects to 30-35 year old films. He is on the record -at least previously- vehemently against it. Wanting the original works to stand.

I could be wrong but the Netflix stream appears to be a bit better than the BR image. Colors seemed a bit less coolish, certain highlights appeared a bit less garish and with a bit more information, and maybe sans sharpening.

Still filtered but who knows which step that came in or maybe even two coats of wax, the second being for the stream encode.

Growing up we never owned real copies of the movies, we just had them taped off TV on VHS. The swearing in the first movie always catches me off guard now and is a little surprsing. Not saying the movies should be released in the TV versions, but sometimes we get used to these things.

Do you have those tapes still? I swear at the end of part one (or beginning of part two) when Mary says "Do we become jerks or something?" was a legit alternate take and not the voice dub over we see in the newer airings.

We had two VCRs, so we would connect them and record movies we rented!

Growing up I only saw the TV edit of BTTF2 so was quite a surprise when I watched the DVD and the 'you snot nose brat' line was gone and in its place was 'you son of a b****'

Same here, when Doc does his "you're gonna see some serious shit" line it always makes my brain go "huh?".

I'm sure our TV recorded edit of the first film replaced "Holy shit!" with "Holy cheese!"

I have no clue what happened to all our VHS tapes, should ask my folks. They probably ended up in at donations place or something.

Yeah, lines like that are real surprising. 'snot nosed brat' feels more in line with the tone of the movies to me than the actual lines, but again, maybe that's just because its what I'm used to.
