i think they look better than the current bd which has a very dull look and has a bit of dnr. these caps are hard to determine the detail as netflix's encoding(esp since COVID) has been dreadful and sucks the grain/life out of films on it's service.

And look at the fine detail, wow. Even for 1080p vs 1080p the new one is killing the old one, like the tiny lines on Elizabeth Shue's blue top and the little perforations on the Delorean's bumper. It might not look as "sharp" as the old one but, well, that's because the sharpening is gone.

People have been quick to seize upon the highlights being more blown out but they've still got a nice roll off rather than the hard video-esque clipping of the previous transfer. Yes some information is being lost but that's pretty much par for the course with modern SDR derivations, the HDR will bring it all back I'm sure. Skin tones look more healthy too.

Getting a little bit excited about these now.

This one is the best... and a bit weird as well: https://screenshotcomparison.com/com...4585/picture:9
The front of the car shows how the remastered has more detail. Better highlights too. But what's going on with the trees in the background? Erased wires maybe?

As I love these movies I just checked netflix and part 1 is still using the older tv master but part 2 is remastered for sure and now colors look fantastic and not dull like the BD. Detail for a 4mbps netflix still obliterates the BD and small details really pop in this definite remaster with no edge enhancement of note and no noticable dnr. Considering how nice this stream looks which I have sampled the 4K of this will be reference.

Re: those new 1080p pic comparisons. This shot really stood out to me. The clipping is gone from the corner panel (looks like a small flame on the old one) and headlight reflections...and the grille and front end detail of the vehicle is very evident. The color in general is a ton better on these new images.

While I’m no film nerd, I can’t be excited about them, being that I believe Universal will do a better job on the 4K disc. I don’t see how or why a transfer made for Amazon or Netflix streaming services would be used for a 4K disc when they can do better and have shown it with other movies.

Wait, wait... let me get this straight:

- One has overblown colors ruining the reflections and trees in the background, and other details are lost by sharpening the picture;

- One of them also has details in the front of the vehicle that weren't there in the darker photo (and appear to be fake and introduced digitally).

Am I seeing things? Both appear to be wrong for me, and a third picture must be missing, one that lies in the middle of these two and reaps benefits from #1 and #2.

This link:
https://screenshotcomparison.com/com...4585/picture:2

May prove my theory that comparison #9 had some sort of filter applied to the front of the Delorean, which introduced vertical lines that didn't exist.

Look at the black chair in the right corner:

[Show spoiler]

Way too much different.

And if they did this they certainly tried this:

I also couldn't find any Delorean picture elsewhere proving this is what the car looks like.

Whatever Universal end up doing with these movies I hope they don't follow this example:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...8&postcount=80

It's one thing to correct brightness and make things more crisp to viewers, it's another to use warmer colors and filters for revisionism.

I expect them to do whatever they’ve done for Jaws, Scarface, The Big Lebowski, etc.

I'm not sure what you are seeing there that is a concern or artificial.

The BTTF Delorean has been heavily modified and that bumper is not a standard one. It has had a perforated metal sheet, it is lot of tiny holes, installed in order for the lighting special effects behind the bumper to be visible.

No one seems to have a definitive reference source to say what is more accurate or revisionist. The old filtered likely Telecine HD tranfers that has been kicking around for yonks is most likely not accurate and far more revisionist than what appears to be a new transfer and master for BTTF 2 on Netflix.

In the shot with Marty and the sales person the object to frame right is also a perforated curved piece of black sheet metal, like on metal car audio speaker or boombox speaker.

Whats the beef?

Very natural. Very saturated. Beautiful 35mm film. Similar to my Japanese analog disc.

Uh...where was it said that I think that this is exactly what will be ported over onto the 4K disc? I mentioned the compression (with a great big OBVIOUSLY though clearly that wasn't obvious enough), I mentioned the as yet unseen benefits of HDR on this transfer with reference to what is an SDR stream, I mentioned that this was only a 1080p vs 1080p comparison. How many more hints do you need that this not the exact same thing as will end up on 4K HDR disc?

BUT - here comes the context, keep an eye out for it - this is clearly a new and hitherto unseen transfer of the film. It has been rumoured that a UHD is in the works. It doesn't take a ****ing rocket scientist to work out that this is a glimpse of what is possibly to come, but that's all it is, a glimpse. And yet: that glimpse is enough to get me excited after having put up with these piece of shit transfers for so long.

As for not being a "film nerd", whatever that's supposed to mean, you're certainly nerdy enough to ask "when's the release date?" over and over in this thread like a distracted kid in the backseat of a car who keeps asking "are we there yet?". But when the first concrete evidence of there being a new transfer appears it gets dismissed out of hand by yourself, I mean....wut?

And lol at the other fella claiming that there's detail there that never existed. That bit at the front of the car is NOT part of the stock Delorean, I just called it a 'bumper' because that was the easiest way to reference it instead of saying 'time displacement rail thingy that was added by the production designer'. And...oh look, there's loads of tiny perforations in a photo of the same part of a screen-used car. I suppose that photo has also had this dastardly "filter" applied to it in order to magically create that detail out of nowhere?

Jesus Christ. And that goes for the both of youse.
