Those who are having freezing issues on the discs, I'm curious what players you're using. My Sony x700 freezes on lots of UHD discs. I don't know if it's because lots of UHD discs are problematic, or if it's my player. I'm at the point where I'm ready to trash my player and replace it with a Panasonic, and if the freezing continues, maybe step away from UHD until they figure out why so many people are having freezing issues with their discs (if they even care). Practically every UHD thread has people saying their discs freeze on their player. Frustrating because I don't always watch my new UHD discs right away, and even if I do, I still don't know if it's the disc or the player.

I think this disc format is problematic. Maybe some players struggle with the high bitrates and choke. Just a theory.

I have a Panasonic ub820 and I have problems with it almost every time I play a 4K disc with it.

We don’t know how many they were able to order in their initial round from the disc manufacturing plant and when they could be shipped. So, they could very well be short on stock and trying to ship these out as quickly as they get more. If it wasn’t for the glitch, they probably wouldn’t be having these delays as there wouldn’t be so many BTTF sets sold.

Worst case scenario, they realize that they won’t be able to get more copies any time soon and canceled the order and refund you. Also, it’s possible that for those already sent to warehouse stage on Gruv were already shipped, but forgot to update the status online. They do ship via USPS media mail, which is very slow, especially now with the election/pandemic stuff going on. So, may take a little longer than usual once shipped.

If you want this set for $10, then just be patient. They won’t take your money unless they plan to ship your stuff. If they can’t, they cancel and refund you.
So by not paying retail people should have to wait weeks to get a product... Talk about elitist bs.

Don't pretend that the $10 pre-order price was normal

We're in the middle of a pandemic and they are clearly understaffed, trying to get things out, and they already said they are on backorder. So they can't ship more out until they get more stock in. And shipping is taking longer these days, again, due to the pandemic.

People need to learn some patience. Especially when they got it for 75% cheaper than most did.

The funny thing is that it had zero to do with having patience but rather the reliability of the site that was shipping them. LOL

Yup, and I have a Sony X700 and have had almost zero playback issues.

The only one I can think of in recent memory was the Psycho UHD, and that's because it was scratched to f*ck.

There's got to be something wrong then. How long have you had it for? Did you have this problem from the start? I've had mine since the day it was released. So it's an oldie.

Ya, X700 has a lot of different issues but playback issue ain't one of them - at least from my experience.

Yet I've read many others that said their x700 does have freezing issues. That's what I mean - no quality control. One person gets a good one, one person gets a bad one.

So I had the X700 and replaced with the x800m2.

I had bttf freeze first time, but a clean of the disc solved that second time.

I actually wonder if the freeze is the player or a combination of it with the TV on handshake issues.

Maybe that's why some people can have the same player but no issue.

Perhaps the freeze is a handshake issue that stops the film playing for a moment that results in a freeze?

The 5 things affecting playing are, player, TV, hdmi cable, amplifier, disc.

Because we all have different combinations any of those combined could cause the disc to freeze...in my view.

I have an X700 and I've had quite a few freezes but I can't honestly blame all of them on the player. From my own research, I believe there are two common reasons for 4K freezes:

1. The discs are extremely sensitive, particularly to smudges, fingerprints, and are sometimes left covered in a nonstick residue from the manufacturing process. These mess with the player more than scratches in most cases because they cover a wider area and make it harder for the player to find good data again. This is especially true on the double or triple layer of the disc.

Due to the nature of this, if you tend to get problems in the later parts of a movie, this is very likely the problem (as the disc is being read on a deeper layer). In most cases, the problem will appear to go away if you skip directly to the problem area again, but may occur again if you play from the start.

The fix is simple: WASH YOUR DISCS. I now do this with every 4K I buy and it has dramatically improved my reliability with playback. In most cases a simple rinse and wipe down with a cotton shirt will do. Make sure to buff out all traces of streaking.

2. The player is either a lemon or has settings enabled which are messing with it. There are too many possibilities to discuss but I suggsst searching your player's forum for suggestions. For the X700, some pieces of advice I have are to disconnect it from the internet as well as all settings allowing information exchange with devices like remote start, as well as minimize how many settings are left on Auto. Essentially the more the player "thinks" the more likely it is to mess up. Personally I have had issues when enabling Deep Color and 24p output.

I have the x800m2 and my BTTF set all played with no errors.

When I first got the player I did have it totally lock up and had to be sent back to the retailer for a fix.

When I spoke to the retailer I was told things like the HDMI cable or going through an amp can cause problems as so much data is going through the cable. I know have my x800m2 going straight to my LG C9 OLED for the picture while the audio only goes to my Yamaha Amp.

I watched II & III on Saturday and Monday respectively, and I can now confirm that none of the 3 had any playback issues with my Sony UBP-X800.

So in 3 years of use I have not experienced even one issue with lockup/freezing with the X800.

Oh, and they all looked great, startingly good in some scenes. Some people are way too picky and have too high of expectations for 30 plus year old films that are released on 4K Ultra HD, IMO...

I don't get these kind of posts. So you saw my post stating I've had no issues with my Sony and you felt compelled to post in this thread just to trash Sony? It would be different if you had an issue with the Sony with the BTTF discs. You know, the topic of this thread. Why not trash the Sony in the Sony player thread?
