As someone who buys 4k combos but doesn’t own a 4k player, yet, you’re all making me nervous

Played it on my Pan UB820 and Sony 800X (not the 2) and both worked flawlessly. Steelbook version from Best Buy in case maybe its a different specific batch like back in the day with Sicario.

I'm not trashing Sony. Look at which TV I own. On the other hand their 4K blu ray players are less than perfect....

It seems to be the case that players are either buggy as **** or virtually bullet-proof, even from the same manufacturer, but generally it seems like Panasonics do betterer than most while Sonys seem to have the most issues, not that there's actually a ton of choice out there now. So it may just be the case that as there are way more Sonys out there in the US than Panasonics then we hear more about those problems.

PS5 could well turn out to be a great spinner but it's gonna be expensive if bought just for UHD duties (as it would be in my case, I haven't played a game in years, literally).

Definitely more DNR at work here, and due to the nature of elaborate VFX in many shots, definition suffers quite a bit too. Dolby Vision was less than stellar too. Nothing really awed me.

My UBP-X800 freezes pretty frequently some times. Nothing I can do about it except turn it off and restart it. I wonder if it has something to do with my wall outlet/power source? I'm going to have to do some experimenting.

I actually wonder if the freeze is the player or a combination of it with the TV on handshake issues.

Maybe that's why some people can have the same player but no issue.

Perhaps the freeze is a handshake issue that stops the film playing for a moment that results in a freeze?

The 5 things affecting playing are, player, TV, hdmi cable, amplifier, disc.

Because we all have different combinations any of those combined could cause the disc to freeze...in my view.
No matter what disc, my Sony X800 always freezes eventually. Now when the disc is actually dirty, I can just take the disc out and clean it, then it'll work fine. When the player really freezes though, I have to unplug and replug ito start it up again.

how far will the price plummet before Black Friday??

i'm glad i cancelled the BBY steels. they look nice, but i still prefer my flux capacitor display. i knew i was getting mostly burned content-wise on that package but it extra burned not even getting the updated disc art.

After having my 4K Sony player professionally inspected, it turns out all the lock ups, freezings and self power downs were actually caused by a faulty "switching unit". I got quoted £192 to fix it, however I just got a new Panasonic player for £120 which does 95% of what the Sony did. Gutted really as the problems were there from day 1, however I got misled by all the people saying "oh a firmware update will fix it, just wait".

Not to beat a certain horse into an even finer pulp, but if that's the zenith of "professional reviews" then god help us. I know what most of you are thinking, that most people don't have a ****ing clue about all the technical stuff that I go on about so if that ^ "review" is too simple then mine are waaaaay too complicated. Fair enough.

But come on, the dude spends more time talking about the movies than the actual AV presentations, along with gems like "I'm less fussy [about DNR] than many perfectionists", so despite his fancy JVC projektor and 96" screen etc it literally reads like the sort of bland "eh, I'm easily pleased" textual wallpaper that someone with a 42" supermarket special LCD watching from across the room would post (and I don't mean to insult any supermarket specialers out there, because at least y'all aren't being touted as "professional reviewers").

There's a market for that kind of lightweight "wallpaper" feedback to be sure, as people don't want to know about all the distracting minutiae and are more concerned with unboxing videos and shit, but it's like there's no middle-ground any more. It's either complete fluff that takes a couple of minutes to read (and even less to forget) or is some lengthy treatise that bores people to tears.

Question Are HDR10 players 100% compatible with HDR10+ discs?

Video
Codec: HEVC / H.265
Resolution: Native 4K (2160p)
HDR: Dolby Vision, HDR10+

I take it the answer is yes but after reading about Sony 4K player issues in this thread I had to ask. (TIA)

BTW my UBP-X800 turned 3 years of age in October and I have had very few issues with it. I also own 2 Sony UPB-X700s and both of them have been great.

I don't spend much time in the hardware forums but I have always though Sony made the best 1080p and 4K players on the market and Sony is the only players I have ever owned since I started this hobby back in 2008.
(But I guess I am in the minority. ......Still its nice to know that there are better players on the market in case I ever run into some of the issues other Sony player owners are having.)

Of course I only have 78 4K titles in my collection, out of 1174 so I don't spend as much time watching 4K media as much as some of you guys.

Just finished Part III. I always thought it was underrated and I'm glad to see it getting some love here.

As for the disc...I'm amazed. I read here that it's the best looking of the trilogy but it's so much more. I've seen these movies a million times and this was one of those "seeing it for the first time" experiences. The HDR and detail is so amazing I am inclined to call it reference quality if only lacking grain. Seriously.

I experienced a problem during the climax with the train where the picture froze and suddenly artifacts appeared. Upon popping the disc tray out and back in the error did not repeat, as it has been with all my freezes in 4K so far. I had washed the disc prior to watching and it was spotless when I inserted it. When I took it out, it was smudged again. I cleaned my disc tray so hopefully that will help. I'm about to go watch Empire Strikes Back in 4K so we will see.

BTW last night I was thinking about what the heck I could watch to keep my mind off the Presidential Election and 'Back to the Future' won. So I watched my 25th Anniversary BD last night. No its not a great transfer by today's standards but its not horrible either. In fact I quite enjoyed revisiting BttF last night. I still remember when me and my aunt saw it at a drive-in theater in 1985. I was 15 and she was 21. What a great film BttF is!

UK version of that set isn't released until December anyway, though the French one is out I think and there are unboxings on the Tube that is You.

Can anyone help me: I was wondering if the US edition of the trilogy was containing the Parisian or the Canadien french dubbing.

I usually (like 98 % of the time) watch movies with their original audio, but some, like BTTF trilogy, have that childhood memory factor which makes the dubbing essential. And I don't really like the french edition. So I have to chose between UK or US.

Thank you guys!
