What's funny is that immediately after the moaning and hissing, the teaser for Part III came on and then people started laughing(mostly in a good way). Universal was wise to attach that to the film. |

I think about that often, they filmed another whole movie without the general film audience knowing. Could never happen now; right? |

I’ve said this before, but I remember being annoyed, even at 9 years old, to see the trailer immediately. I was definitely aware the sequels were being made back to back, but to not even let us walk out of the cinema imagining Part 3 - man o man.
Still, it then became HOW was he going to get back to 1885 in the finale. Magical anticipation on opening night. The answer was of course utter genius too. |

Any now you mention it, nothing about the end of II suggests a western setting is coming (i know Doc hints at it earlier in the film) So at the end, we know there's another one coming, and then suddenly "what is THIS?" Total madness on the screen. |

I think we even used "to be continued" as a noun then it was so common on TV. "There was a 'to be continued' " |

I definitely had an awareness that II and III were shot back-to-back, and I think they were released only six months apart in the U.S. The original BACK TO THE FUTURE was already one of my all-time favorite flicks, but I don't remember seeing II on its initial release. I was already pretty skeptical of sequels back then. I do distinctly remember when III came out: I was finishing up my first year of college in May 1990, and a huge group of us from my freshman dorm went to see a marathon screening of all three films back-to-back-to-back(-to-the-future), at the AMC Kabuki Theaters in San Francisco. It was totally marketed around how II and III were shot as one giant movie. We had an epic and incredibly fun time... but I think I've only revisited II and III once-or-twice since that time.
