T2. DNR is a mess. Some people disagree though

Here's my opinionated list:

Terminator 2
3:10 to Yuma
Oblivion
Batman Begins
Dredd

I would consider Dredd and Oblivion a tossup because the HDR is so well done on these that the filtering is an afterthought.

I prefer the UHD to Begins. I know, I know the wax is bad but the BD just looks nasty to me. I also much prefer Oblivion and Dredd I actually like quite a bit.

Looks over at my 100TB Plex server

No one would do that though, right?

Yeah for sure. And it's subjective. I do get where you're coming from though.

I never thought I'd say this but I actually prefer the UHD of Terminator 2.

Yeah it's been filtered and sharpened and the colour timing is messed up in the opening future war shot, but the scan itself is much better than the old one.

Despite the processing, it somehow still looks more detailed.

That's pretty much how I feel. Don't get me wrong, I think it looks like a dumpster fire but I did not like the BD at all. I at least like the color and HDR of the UHD.

Honestly with Terminator 2, it's a pick your poison scenario.

The 2015 BD, despite having no DNR, is still awful.

But anyway... Back to Back to the Future.

Again, I think it's a terrible release but I also thought the BD were all terrible. If T2 was not DNR'd to hell and back I would consider it to be a fine release.

Oh and incidentally the first time I viewed T2 on UHD was on a mid level LED. I didn't hate it as much because for some reason DNR didn't stand out as much on it. Exact same experience when I watched Begins. Watching both on my OLED the DNR was much worse. It's as though there is a huge leap in resolution on the OLED.

Which means....UHD has been cracked.

You should see the amount of 4K rips or "remuxes" on private torrent sites. They're f*ckin everywhere.

There are blank discs. You can get them on Amazon or do a google search. I've been researching this for about 2 years so I have a little knowledge of this. I've got a ton of 4K movies that I downloaded (legally and can only be downloaded) that I wanted to put on a 4K disc. So I was looking to getting a burner and and blank discs.

Here in Egypt, movies on VHS were never sold to normal people but to video rental stores and I had a friend who owned one of these stores.

I used to make copies for myself for movies I really loved because there was no other way and tbh, the term "piracy" was not very popular here back in the days for personal use.
That friend was hit with Macrovision too as he had 2 VCRs and used to copy some highly popular movies for rent (and he faced a Copyright felony back then and paid a hefty fine) but when Macrovision started, he couldn't understand the issue and he was shocked to see I had some normal quality copies of the movies he failed to copy.
He asked me to copy some for him but I refused since I knew it is illegal for him to use such copies. He then bought a used old VCR like the model I had to bypass Macrovision.

One other hard solution in the late 90s was to have a PC with Video In/Out and that also bypassed Macrovision.

I also remember it only affected certain studios like Universal, Paramount, Touchstone and Dreamworks for example but didn't see it with Fox, MGM and WB.
Thanks for the insightful posts. I've seen Macrovision on home movies before (mostly adult films if I remember correctly), but never knew what it was. I wonder why adult films would need them though. Were people making copies of those as well and selling them to high school students? I mean I used to make complilation tapes back in the day, but I was stupid and bored. Nothing's changed.

For those wondering, here they are. These can even be printed on, if you havea printer that can print onto discs (that's how I made my Star Wars Despecialized disc set, for example).

Same size panel. The black of course but I'm talking resolution. I didn't notice the extra resolution until my OLED.
