I just cancelled my pre-order until some more reviews come in. What this guy says is what I feared most, another terrible DNR, non-filmlike transfer. Polished, and processed. Well at least he said the color isn't over saturated...that is one positive.

Of all the films I want to see handled with the most care to distance itself from the awful Blu-Ray from years ago will most likely end up being another Jurassic Park situation. Come on Universal, why can't you treat your all your films on 4K like 'Scarface'?

No the correct white balance is a calibrated one. How do you know Warm2 is correctly factory calibrated on every set? And really this is no different to folks at home cranking up the brightness with DTM and peak brightness at high and what not. Everyone does their own thing and it looks normal to them. That's how this format works.

Set your TV how you want to set it by all means, but just FYI you're not watching the content how it's intended to be seen. Um...where did I say that Warm 2 is "correctly factory calibrated on every set"? If people want correct colour temp and, even more more importantly IMO, greyscale, then they need a metered calibration...the point of which is to align it with actual set standards like D65 as mentioned. But Warm 2 is still a start, and it'll still get people closer to what it should be than running it on neutral or even cool (shudders). The idea that it can't possibly be perfect out of the box so people shouldn't even bother with trying to get close if they can't calibrate it is wonderfully asinine. [edit] And we've even got things now like Filmmaker Mode on some brands of TV which puts a lot of the basics in place, but as the saying goes: you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

As such, I know everyone does their own thing, I've only been moaning about it for years and years and years. But there ARE standards that this content is mastered to and I'm all about watching it with those standards in place. HDR has of coursh been the biggest home video fustercluck of all time but, again, just because so many people have problems with it doesn't mean everyone does and that's why I give my opinions so freely on UHD releases, I view it closer to the intended look than most particularly when it comes to colour temperature and average picture level.

And I actually like it when something like Goodfeathers or Gremlins or Goonies comes out because it sorts the men from the boys, anyone who says it's too dark to see anything - from the forums anonymous to high profile "pro reviewers" - has got some or all of a combination of poor settings, a poor tone map, poor viewing conditions, or SDR jacked up to Torch mode in comparison.

So they went the cheap route. I might actually get this one though as I have a spare two multi-disc 4K viva elite cases. I suspect the Resident Evil collection will also be in a blu-ray case.

Looking at the negative reviews for Gruv on EBay, I noticed several are from the same people (multiple orders), but two email mentions they were delayed first and then later received cancellation notices. We may not be out of the woods just yet .

That's not what I meant, I meant the people who compare 4K HDR content to the SDR version and declare that the latter is so much brighter because their SDR viewing mode is pumping out hundreds and hundreds of nits. Sure, in several cases SDR is still brighter for APL even when viewed at the intended 100 nits peak, but if people are seeing radical brightness differences then their TV, settings, and/or viewing conditions are badly skewing something somewhere with the HDR.

There's the old joke that members should have their picture settings in their signatures instead of their equipment. That way when they bang on about funny colours and you see "neutral" or "cool" you can ignore it and go about your day.

It's hard to get folks out of the light and into the warm.
