I honestly thought it would take longer for complaints about the ratings logos to start so congrats

Yes they are printed on but having grown up with ratings logos always being present they are a total non-issue for me and certainly less obtrusive than what Germany and Australia are saddled with.

Some more info on the 4K process of BTTF:

Quote:
“On Jaws, Back to the Future, Psycho and The Birds, original 35mm film negatives were scanned in 4K on an ARRI scanner, capturing the film at the highest resolution in order to achieve the best-quality restoration as possible,” says Michael Daruty, SVP of global media operations, part of the Universal’s content management group. “A full 4K workflow was utilized for color grading with various digital tools used for image stabilization, deflicker, dirt, scratch removal, damage repair and grain management as required.

“On Jaws and the ‘Back to the Future Trilogy,’ we worked very closely with the filmmakers throughout the process,” says Universal’s Daruty. “We welcome filmmaker collaboration as we strive to provide them with the highest-quality representation of their films while maintaining their creative intent.”

Likewise, “Back to the Future” producer Bob Gale and director of photography Dean Cundey were involved throughout the remastering of all three films, he says.

“Specific to recent restorations, the grain patterns on the optical shots in the negative used for Back to the Future, The Birds and Psycho were challenging as we tried to manage the optical grain and resolution differences to make sure that they did not produce artifacts or create enhanced noise in HDR,” he says. “For Rear Window, additional challenges with color fading in the original opticals were replaced with sections from the YCM yellow layer separation master.”

There's even an Irish one in the right hand corner.

[Show spoiler]

Plus two on the spine. And on the back. And also four or five different ratings logos on each and every disc. You can never, never be too careful when it comes to ratings logos. That's how we roll

As Indiana says, when you live with them for long enough, you just kinda tune them out.

My OCD won't allow for that. Especially, for example, when there is a series of films or TV shows with a unified design, and for some reason, the Irish logo is missing on some titles.

At least, here in Germany, they often make the FSK logo as a sticker on the better packaging options (like digipaks or steelbooks). Or some labels provide reversible covers for amarays, sans the logo.

Printed on ratings logos are the price we pay for not having cardboard sleeves

Swings and roundabouts.

I also hate the new style BBFC certificate logos. The rounded edges on the PG look terrible

You definitely wouldn’t like the look of my Star Wars UHD collection then as they all follow the same layout except RotS which is missing the Irish ratings logo, actually toyed with the idea of making my own sticker just so it matches the rest but then remembered I don’t really care lol

There’s nothing worse than the Australian age ratings though. They’re a real atrocity. So unsubtle it’s ridiculous.

Then there was the shocker of a PG-13 box on the spine of the US Far From Home 4K.

What does the grain look like, is it reasonably sharp? Does it have both high and low-frequency components? Is there a color component to it or completely monochromatic (yellowish dye blobs were mentioned previously.) Does there appear to be smudged or smeared image detail and textures underneath the grain? How does the grain move?

For example every frame of a piece of film is a different physical object unrelated to the others and so every frame should have a completely different grain field. With time you learn what this grain that changes 24 times every second looks like, and so can easily pick up on it if the grain instead appears to change slightly in slow-motion or if it moves slightly with or trails after the movement in the image, a tell-tale sign of noise-reduction since it largely works by analyzing and reducing temporal changes.

With regards to BTTF it seems to be a mix as is so often the case, but relatively inoffensive overall. Shots like this appear more or less untouched, this optical is clearly heavily denoised (but it's an optical so, ehhh) and I'm somewhat suspicious of examples like this because the grain looks just a tad soft and lacking contrast, and I sense some possible diagonal smearing on her left cheek, eye and temple. Of course impressions can change a lot once you see things in motion.
The shot of Lorraine, I'm wondering if the caps are the wrong way around, the colour and texture looks correct on the Blu ray which seems odd based on everything else we are seeing.

You don’t know what’s it like to be Canadian and be saddled with those bilingual covers. I’ve spent a pretty penny importing most of my collection from the US to avoid those. Ratings logos are perfectly acceptable to me, and I gladly import exclusive UK releases and take advantage of any sales from their retailers. I’d get this BTTF set from there if the exchange rate wasn’t so bad right now.

I’ll probably just go with the Canadian release in this instance because I typically swap any sets that come in cardboard sleeves packaging for custom cases/covers anyway.

Can anyone who received the UK UHD+BR set confirm that the BRs are indeed remastered?
(as the UK BR-only set seems to contain just the old BDs)

I’m pretty sure this is because the ifco gave ROTS a PG, whereas the BBFC rating is 12. I think in those cases where the ratings differ they omit the Irish one from the cover to avoid confusion.

That is precisely the reason but still looks odd being the only one of the 11 without a little blue logo.

Have you actually checked the Blu-ray discs in the UK 4K box set

Reason me and others are asking is because the Blu-ray discs included in the 35th Anniversary UK Blu-ray only box set have the old 2010 transfer codec VC-1

What codec is the UK Blu-ray discs showing as when played in a Blu-ray player from the UK 4K UHD Boxset that also includes Blu-ray Discs
We not asking about the 4K UHD discs

Don't go by the discs having 2020 printed on the discs

The issue is that until someone gets the blu ray only set, we won't know. The Batman box set for example contained remastered blus in the UHD set but the standard blu set released recently with the same artwork as the UHD set contained the old discs. It's really quite irritating. What's more annoying here is that the UK BTTF set has the words "all 3 movies remastered" on the back and STILL contained the old blus. I've got my US blu set on order and I'm waiting for confirmation to decide whether or not to cancel. Not interested in another repackage.
