If my calculations are correct, when this forum hits 2020 you're gonna see some serious shit.

What more are you looking for?!
The press release was the only legit confirmation. But it never mentioned a full release date — as in, month & day. A bunch of random people saying “confirmation” isn’t such. It’s not wise to believe everything you read on the Internet, that is why I asked someone what they were reading which stated “May 2020”. I merely asked where he was getting his info from. Because Universal never said May 2020 in the press release. And I had read the press release before I started asking questions.

Yes I DO need proof that it is coming in May.

I don’t have a track record, all I have is a vague release date from Universal’s press release and a bunch of idiots claiming it’s going to release in May without offering links of their sources.

Edge, just calm down a bit dude. This is what happens on these 4K forums: people get wind of a release date waaaaaaaay ahead of time (even ahead of those with "industry sources", lol) and we spend the ensuing months debating various things until they actually get confirmed or not, then we go back to debating those same things again/let the thread die, delete as applicable.

It really is safe to say that something BTTF related will be coming in 2020. Who/what/when/where that will entail, who knows. I get that YOU want to know but the exact vital statistics are under wraps, as they always are this far out from release, and if people do know it's not worth their job or their contacts to spill it this early. Calmete muchacho, calmete.

No specific dates have been announced, only 2020. My best guess is that the release will either be in July to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of the release of Part I (July 3rd, 1985). But considering that Oct 21st has been officially recognized at "Back to the Future Day", I would assume an October release date would be more realistic, especially being closer to the Holiday/Q4 season. Not to mention that Oct 21st once again falls on Wednesday, as it did in 2015 (both in Part II and on the actual date).

Don't forget the announcement of a theatrical re-release as well, which is also most likely to happen before a new 4K and Blu-ray set are released. Not likely the studio is going to re-release a 35 year old franchise into cinemas during the height of the summer movie season. Late winter/early spring, or September/October are best for those kind of re-releases, which again, should give you a better idea of the timeline for next year.

For those who continue to question the validity of this 4K announcement, this information was all released by Universal Studios, Amblin Entertainment and Back to the Future.com, the official website.

I never questioned the validity of the announcement, I only wanted to know more about it beyond what Universal had discussed in the press release.

Why does the item page say it's coming out in "early" 2020 specifically?

There’s even a separate listing for the original film. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Back-...lu-ray/255542/

No.. You need to go back in time and intercept old Bob Gale and make sure he doesn't get his hands on the authoring of these discs. Our futures depend on it!

I just hope Universal includes the original stereo track.

And (wishful thinking): lossless isolated Alan Silvestri score track on each film.

Why stereo mix?

I would highly doubt Universal would remix the audio to Dolby Atmos. They haven't yet on any catalog title that I can think of. Bob Gale would have to insist on Atmos.

No true objects are currently utilized with DTS: X and they're locked to 7.1.4 (DTS: X Pro will not change the track encoding - it's currently to be used as a matrix upmixer in >7.1.4 consumer processors), so it's easier to use as a quick and dirty remix tool... just not better.

Why not? It hasn’t made an appearance since the VHS days, and if E.T. can have one on the UHD, why not BTTF?

Why are they using DTS:X? Just to be different from every other studio? Why doesn’t every studio just come together on a standard?

They did for Schindler's List but, as you inferred there, the producers would have to insist upon it as did Herr Spielberg.

BTTF is soooo getting a DTS:X remix though. (Uni have had ties with DTS going right back to Jurassic Park, they've always been more inclined to use their sound formats.)

At one time Universal had a financial interest in DTS along with Spielberg. I don't know if that is still the case.

It's also possible that their contracted post service provider had DTS's immersive software tool suite before they had Dolby's or they cut a licensing deal with DTS.

Sometimes a studio will go with whatever's the cheapest, not the best. Hence Dolby Vision's limited use on disc.
