ex. "...and replying to every question and whim. .. BOYYYY" To keep this post on topic, count me in on the group of Ebay GRUV orders that has shipped, left the Ohio warehouse, and is taking whatever slow path to Wisconsin that Media Mail would take.. Last edited by ij72; 10-23-2020 at 05:15 AM. |

It's important to stress that this chroma issue is incredibly minor while watching the film--at least for me. It was almost impossible to see front projected in 4K, but was a little more visible on my 4K laptop screen. But looking at the channels separately will show you a bit better what's going on here:

It's a bit of a puzzle. We're not even sure what's causing it, to be honest. Is it a mistake that occurred when the o-neg was being laser scanned for this restoration in red, green, and blue light? Was there something wrong with the blue pass? Not sure.
Perhaps back in '84/'85, DP Dean Cundey asked the lab to push process these scenes if he thought they might be underexposed and they were just naturally noisy as a result. The blue layer of the film emulsion is the grainiest, so it would increase first if that happened. I know back in the early to mid '80s, labs were also experimenting with faster ECN-2 processing at higher temperatures to the chagrin of DPs. However, push processing is done by reducing the speed of the machine and increasing time in the developer. Thing is, if the chemistry gets out of whack, grain suffers. For instance, the film gives off bromide during development and if that builds up it can screw up the blue layer--especially the lowest density blue where exposure was at a minimum, like in shadows. Maybe someone was trying to "fix" the blue channel's excessive noise or graininess by softening or smearing it during the grade? Again, not sure. If you look at this Kodak paper Effects of Mechanical & Chemical Variations in Process ECN-2, on page 39 it says that Blue spots or blotches can be caused by "Excessive pressure applied to the emulsion (e.g., soft-touch tire pressed on film by feedstand brake)." That's unlikely to be the cause (because it would only be on one frame), but it's interesting to speculate. ![]() Last edited by Maxwell Everett; 10-23-2020 at 07:53 AM. Not sure if anyone's posted shots of the AU/NZ release but just got mine today. Was gonna get it release day but the JB Hi-Fi here hadn't received the sets then (somehow).
The outer box is a bit odd with not having any open sides, have to unfold it either top/bottom to get it out. Thankfully they went with standard cases for the release here. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Watched the first film tonight and glad to finally see a release without that ugly DNR/sharpened look the last BD release had, so I can finally retire the DCP/HDTV rips. |

You got reports in here about minor stuff thats about as egregious as the transfer of Iron Man, Thor etc. And there was no replacement program push for those by any communities. So there wont be here is my guess. Universal also just never admit to making mistakes in their home video releases, historically. Hence the laughing emojis I saw a couple pages back. |

Right. Damnit. Of course I see this right after I finally break down and place an Amazon order after debating it off and on all week. Oh well, I guess if they do a replacement disc I can always do that. Reminds me I need to do one for Apocolypto.
