I still haven't even gotten a backorder email from Gruv. Got my initial order confirmation email though. Is all this madness what happens when you get a mad deal like this?
Huh? I've had no problem with the packaging at all. I think it's just fine. In fact, the packaging is one of the neat things about the whole presentation. In some cases packaging is everything and this one nails it out of the park. No problems here with it so far. Learn to roll with the times.
Don't know if we got different sets, but I'm talking about the U.S. standard digipak. As far as looks/presentation goes, sure I have no complaints, but my main concern is protecting the discs, and well the discs are tightly jammed in there. You have to grab both sides of the disc to pull it out of the sleeves, and even then it takes some force to get them out. It's certain to get fingerprints and scratches from inserting and removing over time. I'll probably find a standard replacement case and put some custom artwork on it.
To those who asked why I didn't just open the damaged product and watch those until the replacement arrived - this is my favorite movie. It may be silly, but the experience of getting a destroyed product really was a let down. I want to be excited when I sit down to watch this. So that's why!
My replacement copy from Amazon arrived yesterday. Thankfully delivered by Amazon, in a box and was in mint condition.

Concur on all points. My discs were all sticking out from the sleeves a bit, but were rather tightly held, so I can assume that was not due to shipping, but the people at the manufacturing plant just didn't care. In any case, mine showed up pretty much pristine (even in the "bubble wrap" envelope Amazon uses), the only defect being a slight crease on theback near the top right corner. This also was not due to shipping, but was more akin tothe spine crease many people commented on in the Jaws 4K thread:
As for removing the discs, I had little trouble getting them out, but as you say, both sides of each disc needed to be gripped (I used a microfiber cloth to avoid finger prints or additional scratches). After removing each disc VERY slowly, I did not incur any additional scratches, and the only existing scratches I found were on the BTTF BD disc, and then they were only hairline, and radial, so doubtful they would affect playback. In any event, I may get a replacement from Amazon anyway, just in principle (then mix & match).
As for custom covers, there are plenty of options out there (some on this site) that use the original iconic Drew Struzan artwork...

I concur, but you should have not been charged until this past week when it was "Sent to Warehouse". Blacknapkins was charged on the 26th and that was 99.9% eBay and not gruv.com. That is what I was responding to.
I watched the first movie last night. It met my expectations (in a good way). At moments, as has been discussed, it can look a bit processed or digital but much of the movie is fine and to be expected given the source material. It shouldn't even need to be stated, but it's MILES above the old BD in every single respect. It's by far the best I've ever seen the movie and it's nice now not having a dreaded feeling going into the movie like before having to deal with watching such a mess on the old BD.
I did spend a little time afterward with the remastered BD, and yeah, it's definitely a notable step down. Less detail, flat looking, and skintones can look a little curious at times especially on Marty; almost a weird salmon color with this brighter look in some shots. Hard to explain, but not natural and all too characteristic of these 'remastered' BDs which have been discussed.
Exactly this, I had the same thought about not having that feeling of dread when cueing up BTTF in theplayer and it's the first time in ten years (or more, I didn't rate the DVDs all that highly) I've been able to lose myself in the movie like that. I'm still humming the bloody music after like a week, I can't get it out of my head. And the warbling audio was fixed on BTTF Part II so that was also one less distraction on that one, although I didn't enjoy the movie as much this time around. **** it, I'm gonna have to watch all three again.

Already posted inthisthread by Pieter V, though without the chapter information. Here's all of them at one time, although a couple pieces of info seem to be missing. I guess my version is an older version, I didn't find a newer one available.

We got the same sets and I have found little trouble with the packaging or pulling out the discs. It's all fine to me..I've dealt with thse before. Digipaks have been in the music industry for years and I haven't had any issues there. Move with the times as they are moving whether you want them to or not.
