Well, Part I played without a hitch (Oppo 203), but Part II has me confused. There was a single hiccup, where the video and sound paused for a couple of seconds, then continued as though nothing had happened (no sync problems, no pixelation, no nuthin'). I watched the rest of the way through without incident, then went back to the chapter with the pause ("The Tannen Museum" in 1985A). Note that I DID NOT remove the disc (or even stop it), so I did not wipe it down further (I did buff it with a microfiber cloth under bright lighting before inserting it into the player to make sure I got any smudges, and there are no scratches). It played back normally, with no pause...?!? Then I skipped forward to where Doc is looking through different currencies in 1955, and played that sequence (I could swear that the sleeve he pulls out cash to give to Marty was labelled "1989"), and then chapter skipped back to 1985A. The "Tannen Museum" sequence played back fine again. So, I have to conclude that the disc is OK.... That a spec of dust caused the pause the first time around, and was blown off for subsequent playback...?!? Unless somebody can come up with a better explanation...
On to Part III... Last edited by HarcourtMudd; 11-01-2020 at 01:19 AM. |

To me part 3 always felt like the "easy" sequel, true it does have the "chicken" subplot about self improvement but generally it feels like a simpler film IMHO. Basically take the time travel concept and shift it back to the old west. I could imagine for example if the original didn't have the setup at the end we might have gone straight into the 3rd film, Marty gets a letter from 1885 doc in 1985 telling him he's been stranded and were he's left the time machine. |

Glad to hear i'm not the only one disappointed with this release (PQ wise).
Part 1 was a mess. It could look good in places but so much processing going on. Part 2 i switched off after 30 minutes. Again, had moments of looking good but i found the processing so distracting. To be fair, i wasn't enjoying the film much. Part 3 i've not bothered with yet - although i suspect it'll be the same. For me, Universal have ruined my most anticipated release on this format. They had one job to do ... and failed. I really don't get it - they've done great work on past catalogue titles. I really wasn't expect this level of fcukupery. Glad to hear some enjoyed it at least, but for me, it's a ... meh. |

Honestly with these kinds of massive releases I would never expect perfection, too many people sticking their oar in, too much "the general public hate grain" viewpoints from execs, mostly I'm just happy when you don't get a T2 style totally botched job.
It helps of course that previous releases were generally flawed as well, in this case much more seriously flawed so the first film especially for me is actually one of the biggest upgrades I'v seen between BR and UHD. Last edited by moreorless; 11-01-2020 at 03:01 PM. |

Anyone else experiencing issues on BTTF 1- 4k disk at 01:13:10? Corrupt video. No scratches or smudges on the disk. Also reappears in a few other locations. This may only effect the most recent run from Amazon. Using Panasonic DP-UB820 with 8k HDMI cables.

Might be silly question, is the trilogy steelbook in the box that has the separators (as shown here) really just a Best Buy exclusive in the US?

I watched all three this weekend and they all played without issue and looked & sounded great. I'm very happy with this release.

I'd rank them a 7/10 for video and 10/10 for audio. The Atmos tracks are a revelation. PQ loses 3 points for the lack of grain, definitely looks too processed but I'll take it over the old BDs any day. Zero playback issues for me either.

![]() This is why should unbox on a table... I got my US box this week, tried to watch 1 and 2 after work on Thurs/Friday but so tired I fell and sleep and missed bits. So yesterday I decided to watch all three one after the other making sure I used a cloth to check for any dirt etc. They all played fine no issue, I am happy with the set. I did look closely and the part Geoff mentioned was wrong and could see what he meant. I then went back to the old Blu Ray to see if the same issue appeared. I couldn't tell myself if the issue appeared on the old Blu ray too but the god awful DNR didnt help trying to determine one way or the other. Do we have source for that 14 mins that is correct for comparison? |

Watched "1" last night. Those of you complaining about the PQ are just being absurd. There is no way you have ever seen the film look this good, including original theatrical runs. Maybe you need better playback equipment (OLED, or a high end projector - not some low end consumer junk).
Do I think it was "perfect," nope, was I glad it didn't have revisionist HDR, special effects, any "problematic" DNR, etc....absolutely. I'm also thankful it didn't look like a VHS tape. |

Watched Part 1 today, and as someone who watched the DVD set from Costco over and over as a kid (and watched the Blurays once), this is definitely a nice improvement. I wish it was grainer like many of us but other than that I was pleased. The HDR looked great to me.
I had an extremely small hiccup where the disc froze for a split second as Marty drives off from the clocktower at the climax but that was it. For those experiencing more severe playback issues, I would try wiping your disc down with a clean cotton shirt and maybe giving them a rinse under warm water. My discs seemed to have some residue on it I noticed when I cleaned mine (a part of buying new 4Ks for me since they're so damn sensitive). |

Smaller "pits" to pack in more data per layer (33 gigs per layer vs. 25 gigs on regular Blu-ray), plus the 100 gig discs are triple layer.
