Yep. When the Pannysonic players detect both of those flavours of HDR in both disc and display chain they will default to HDR10+. I've heard that OPPOs do the same thing, only you can’t turn off 10+ as they don’t officially support it.

The rise of II's reputation seemed to coincide rather nicely with the nerdification of all things pop culture, and the mainstream assimilation of nerds generally. Most of us who saw it in 1989 knew it wasn't nearly as successful as a film though. But I can imagine it would be an effective gateway drug to burgeoning time travel geeks who saw it as kids.

I mean, I was nine, so that should be me too, and while I appreciate the conceptual risks it takes and always enjoy the movie...better than the first one? Nah.

Incidentally, there's an episode of Mr. Robot that pays homage to part II in a rather sweet way, and I'd highly recommend any fans of these movies check out that show. The whole run really is up to its neck in BTTF references, but it doesn't become self-satisfied about it.

This only correct answer. The absolutely insane, frenetic energy of the story combined with the intricate, “the stakes have never been higher” plotting, is nothing short of genius to me. I love that it never lets off of the pedal from minute one until the very end.

Gotta say, even though I was introduced to II and III with an incredibly fun triple-feature "trilogy screening" in 1990, at San Francisco's AMC Kabuki Theater... and enjoyed all three at the time... this trilogy has devolved for me to the point where I can only watch the first one. Like the JAWS franchise, I don't even acknowledge the existence of any others in my collection; I've placed the extremely-classic first BACK TO THE FUTURE (which I believe to be a perfect movie) on my shelf in a black UHD case with altered DVD art... while Parts II and III have been relegated to my hidden storage place along with Alien 3 and 4, and Jurassic Park 3 and 4.

But man I love that first BACK TO THE FUTURE so much. I've been watching my entire physical media collection in chronological order since November 2019 (before the pandemic!), and I'm just now up to 1985. Will be watching BACK TO THE FUTURE on Sunday; can't wait!

I will grant that, because it so adroitly fuses the delightfully caffeinated chaos of II with the heart of III, the first film is objectively the overall superior film, but for sheer grin-from-ear-to-ear fun, II is my go-to ride every time.

III is too calm and sweet for my taste. The movies are at their best when Doc Brown is frenetic, and III mostly takes that away. It's still a decent movie, and a good end to the trilogy. But it is easily my least favorite.

Original, part II, part III. That's my order.

It's such a unique situation and I really hope the parties involved change their minds and make such a thing happen in my lifetime because I'd love to see it.

I have a feeling that Zemeckis, Gale, and Spielberg will all have to pass on before that ever gets serious attention from the studio.

Once all three are dead though, all bets are off.

It's that sweetness that endears Part III to me more than II. II is a frenetic balls to the wall kinda movie, there are such high stakes in every act and that's why people dig it. Fair enough but I genuinely thought it was rather fatiguing last time out, that every act is practically like its own mini-movie and that by having such important events in each one it actually makes those stakes feel less important, if that makes sense, because I don't have time to reflect on the last one before the next one is thrust in my face. It felt more like a breathless technical exercise, still fun but lacking the heart of the first and third films. I love Part III for just being able to take a breather whilst still being engaged with the story and these characters, it's a gas that Doc and Marty's roles have basically been inverted. And that train finale, oh mai, still such a stunning set-piece 30+ years later.

II is a fractured movie that takes about 45 minutes to settle into the story it actually wants to tell. Once it gets to alternate 85 it actually has a story, but up until that the movie's a pretty looking narrative drag.

I love Part II, even if the third act is a lesser rehash of the original. It's a relentlessly paced ham sandwich of a film... and I like ham sandwiches.

I don't understand what this is supposed to mean.

I did see II as a kid, along with the others in the franchise. I, as an adult, am able to watch a movie that I enjoyed as a child and note its strengths and weaknesses without needing to assuage my childhood self.
