Well, that's the thing about using such a device to tell a story. It doesn't exist so they can make up whatever rules they like, they may well trip themselves up as they go but I don't have a problem with anything that happens in the BTTF trilogy. I'm too busy enjoying the movies, all three of 'em.

To be honest, I don't have an issue with the time travel in back to the future while watching.
They did a good job writing the movie and explaining it for the movie.
Hell, I only talk about it here, because it's fun. I no longer have anyone to even talk to about movies anymore in real life.

The writing for Doc Brown, and Christopher Lloyd's performance, do a great job at explaining time travel physics to any layman.

Let's not jump to conclusions considering it's coming from a highly compressed YouTube video but I thought it'd still be interesting to share:

Part I: https://screenshotcomparison.com/com...2653/picture:0
Part II: https://screenshotcomparison.com/com...2654/picture:0
Part III: https://screenshotcomparison.com/com...2655/picture:0

The sequels especially look promising detail wise. Can't wait to see those from the actual discs.

Is it just me, or do these "YouTube Video (Potential New Master)" all look like they've been DNRed to T2 level?

The compression is atrocious in those screenshots.

No, there's bucket loads on grain in these. It's just the YouTube compression.
It's freaking hilarious when you mouseover the current transfers.

This is pre dirt removal also (at least I hope considering the chunks of dirt in these stills).

Bob Gale says neither he nor director Robert Zemeckis knew the Netflix-streamed version existed.

From that article:

"He continued, 'Apparently, this was a foreign version which neither director Robert Zemeckis nor I even knew existed, for some country that had a problem with the Oh La La magazine cover.'"

I'm honestly not sure I believe that. If that were the case, the edit would have been handled much more carefully. I still think this was just an error in the file used.

In any case, it's good that it's been fixed.

Check screenshot number 4 on Part II for instance, the details on Lorraine's dress/necklace are almost non-existant on the old master in comparison.

Same thing goes for screenshot number 2 on Part III, the buckle on Clara's hat is way more refined on the "new master".

Agreed. I think it's pretty clear these are new masters, but the YouTube compression obscures almost all the potential benefits. But if you look closely they are there. Of note the framing on all films is slightly different, with more image visible. Check out example #7 on BTTF III. Properly framed so as to not to show the edge of the film. And the absence of film artefacts is promising. These were some of the dirtiest Blu-ray era transfers I've ever seen.

John
As long as companies have decent 35mm or greater negatives in the archive, the chances are the 4K scan will come out great. Some companies are too lazy to do negative scans. They go straight from some 2K DI, just to label it as 4K and sell it. Is like taking a Blu-Ray and upscaling it to 4K without the HDR. It looks good, but is it really 4K ?

Going forward, I am really interested to see how some old classics will come out. Particularly movies that were stored on IB Tech film.
They yield some of the brightest and colorful picture quality you can get.

and yet every single other shot for all of the movies has less detail, weird colors and all of them, even the ones you selected are wax city, no grain, no subtle details, nothing, just utter wax, horrendous

On Netflix, Part II seems to use the new master now. See how you feel about it.
