They've done some really beauties on UHD. Fingers crossed these are another slam-dunk.
If Universal treat them right then I'm more worried about what the "professional reviews" will think of them, especially the first film which was shot on some of the grainiest stock (5294) that was used in mainstream '80s filmmaking. It wasn't shot as filtered as, say, Gremlins was (which was lensed on the immediate predecessor to 5294) but at it's core it's not going to be a particularly 'clean' looking film. Still, if it gets a bit off the top as Uni like to do then I won't complain if it looks as stellar as Casino does.

I'm planning to get a 4K tv sometime next year, and I've already started buying 4K Blurays in preperation. I really hope this is going to show the film with a brand new scan without all the DNR and EE that's on the Blu-ray.

Sad thing is that they'll probably release a new standard blu-ray set and throw on the old masters still, so people without 4K will still miss out on a potential proper transfer.

2 and 3 are entertaining but not something I need in 4K.

Should we still worry a little bit about Universal on this task or should we relax a tad after the likes of Lebowksi, Casino, and Scarface. I'm thinking these will be the absolute best the trilogy has looked and Universal has been redeeming themselves nicely.

Will the audio warble still be present on BTTF II?

History for those that do not know:

When the DVD set was issued for the first time, BBTF II had a few shots that were misframed. What most don't know is that there was a strange audio issue, which I've heard described as warble, during the scene where Doc Brown watches Marty through his binoculars.

When the replacement program for the DVD was put into effect, both the misframed shots and the audio warble were corrected.

That was great.

But of course when the Blu-rays came out, the originally misframed shots were correct, but the audio warble was back!

I had to keep my DVD of BTTF II for this reason.

Hope they fix it for the UHD.

Ugh, thanks for the reminder. I recall being like the only person on HTF who actually noticed this at the time, I even got PM from someone claiming to represent Bob Gale who wanted to know time stamps for when the warbling occurs (basically it's on any sustained music note, higher pitched ones especially).

Fingers crossed that the inevitable DTS:X remix goes back to the source stems rather than the re-recorded masters that comprise the 5.1 mixes, that should avoid the botched audio on II.

Probably because Back To The Future>Star Wars>Getting kicked in the shin>Game of Thrones

The Star Wars o e is gone most likely be announced around the time Episode 9 comes to home video. Bet on that.

hopefully a 4K box-set will come out alongside Rise of Skywalker 4K Blu-ray (end of March 2020)...meaning they should announce it at the same time they announce the date for RoS

Excellent. Never bought the Blus. The color on the first film is natural, no cyan leaning look. Blues are blue. I saw a clean 35mm print right after the BD came out. Colors weren't an issue with the BD - all that digital processing was. Now BTTF3, I also saw that theatrically but it was first run so I have nothing to add.

Theatrical print of first one has about the same level of detail as a Blu-ray. I remember trying to read all the packaging and brand names in the kitchen. But if they're going from the neg, I guess we can expect MORE.
