Good to see this finally announced. The content looks great, but yeah, that artwork is...

Lazy, I think, is the word. I just don't get the mentality behind this sort of thing. Do they really think the cast in random awkward poses is the best way to sell Back to the Future at this point? How many sets of eyes had to approve that?

And although I'd love for those English 2.0 tracks to be the original audio, are we sure they're not DVS tracks?

I know from experience that these sleeve packaging cases scratch the discs horrifically (no matter how gentle I am with the discs). I went through 3 Alien Anthology sets that had their discs destroyed by the sleeve packaging, so the fourth time I went for the UK Amaray set. Screw this type of packaging.

If you had steelbooks and sleeves, the Australian release is using standard 4K casing.

Cool that it's coming out in 4K. I'm sure that will make a lot of people happy. But my current BD steelbook is just fine. There are so many things that are much higher priority on my 'to buy' list. I'll probably pick them up when they're < $10 apiece.

Shit... I’m not much of a steelbook guy but I absolutely HATE those sleeves. I literally bought every Star Wars movie individually to avoid getting the sleeved box set version. But I do have the Spiderman set with sleeves and no scratches so far... but I intend to watch this trilogy a lot more. Not sure which to get :/

What would bother me the most is if they somehow stack the discs in the steelbooks...

All three BTTF moves were also released in 70mm magnetic 6-track Dolby so the original audio was also at least 4.1 on the 70mm prints. The 5.1 and Atmos audio are probably based on these.

I'm not a huge fan of sleeve packaging, but "horrifically" and "destroyed"? If you're as gentle with the discs as you say, I'm not sure how they become horrifically scratched up to the point of going through 3 Alien sets.

Don't get me wrong, in a perfect world I'd like the discs in individual cases, but I've never experienced anything close to what you're describing.

These cardboard sleeves ABSOLUTELY can scratch discs. I've gone through enough nightmares with cardboard sleeves that I won't ever order another sleeved set. Which is a shame because I want to pick this up as a surprise for my girlfriend. But I'm not going through another round of exchanges tying to get a set without scratched discs. Won't they ever learn?

Link to Australian artwork - still ugly but better casing.

I went through 2 box sets of the Friday the 13th tin and all the discs were scratched up in both sets. I ended up buying them individually years later and surprise - no scratches. I own seasons 1 and 2 of Stranger things on UHD which came in wacky packaging, and the blu-rays and UHD all had scratches. I returned one set and the replacement also were scratched up. My Fair Lady came in a wacky package similar to sleeves and the discs were scratched.

My Lost in Space box set which used sleeves wasn't scratched - my guess is because those sleeves were quite loose. Most sleeves hold the discs very tightly, pressing the cardboard directly and firmly to the disc, making it easier to scratch when placing the disc in or taking the disc out of the sleeve. Lost in Space was loose enough that I could just tip the case and the discs would fall roll easily, so I did that once and placed them in new cases.

I'm not sure which release is ugliest. I call it a draw. They all win.

I loathe sleeve-style packaging, but I also really dislike the impracticality of Steelbooks. Especially ones being sandwiched together in a slipcase. (It's almost like you get to choose: Scratches on discs, or scratches on steelbooks... ) Since it looks like I'll be going the custom cover route, I may just have to get whatever set will get me the (hopefully undamaged) discs the cheapest.

I swear, the rights holder to these films really has a thing for Digibooks...
Simple way to avoid the scratches on the steelbook - don't slide them out individually. Take all 3 out together, then put them back together. It's the sliding against each other that scratch them. Taking all 3 out together will help minimize this.

Went with the Steelbooks since they have individual cases. My one problem with Steelbooks is it feels like you have to be all-in. I usually love the spine artwork but I'm not a big fan of mixing and matching regular cases and Steelbooks. They look fine on the shelf together but it still bugs me.

I kinda wish I would have went all Steelbook but I'm too deep into the collection to consider that.

Having said that, this release isn't terrible looking. The steelbooks are a better concept than in execution, and the basic cover art with the heads up top, the logo in the middle and the time machine driving off at the bottom is probably the best one.

Personally, I loved the prominent use of white on The Complete Adventures release and how the complete animated series was worked in. It's a shame they didn't include the animated series here, either with the same DVDs or as an SD on Blu-ray single disc release.
I still prefer this Italian tin box limited edition with all those goodies but it is sold out

I HATE all of these cover designs.

Thus I'll be buying whichever one is best value (i.e. cheapest).

Drew Struzan should sue these cnuts.
