That's definitely the way to go for a casual enthusiast. Which is most people I know whom don't buy many discs.

But if you don't play Playstation games then no. A stand alone player is much cheaper.

So amped for this trilogy the more I think about it. Gonna be tough to wait till probably up to July or so. But worth it.

I imagine Jaws will come out next year, too. To take advantage of 45th Anniversary date. And then Indiana Jones movies will come out 2021 to go with the Anniversary of Raiders. So in two years all the majors will be out -- The only sadness would be Jurassic Park deserving better.. perhaps a re-release in 2023 to fix it, and JP III

I bought a stand-alone player because PS4 didn't have a 4K player. I'm going to sell my 4K player so I can get the PS5. Hopefully, the movie buying general audience also gets the PS5 to give 4K a shot in the arm.

Well Disney is going to need something to make in 2020.

We're not getting GoT however though because Peter doesn't support 4K enough.

Still, if it gets a bit off the top as Uni like to do then I won't complain if it looks as stellar as Casino does.
I was actually going to say, was the entire first film shot on 5294? It isn't exactly a clean looking stock compared to 5247 which seems to look incredible with 4k scans. I've always wondered what the sequels were shot on, and if they were at least partial t-grain stocks. They look a lot cleaner.

I always preach that you should never purchase a movie on day one release when you can get it a lot cheaper a couple months after but if there is 1 movie franchise i will always purchase on day one, it will always be BTTF! **** YEAH, IT IS FINALLY COMING TO 4K, WOOHOO!!!! If and when Universal re-releases this to movie theaters again, i will be there as well! Had a great time with the other people who came to watch it last time in the theater, it was just a pure delight.

I hope that this doesn't mean that there is a remake in the works.

They used 5247 as well but I don't know if it was just for the 8-perf VFX plates or for the daylight exteriors as well. In any case, they'll have used the 94 quite a bit and so if that's left unfettered then it will look grainy as all get out.

The sequels were made just before the EXR stocks came out I think, if I had to guess I'd say they were 5295 so they should look quite a bit cleaner.

I hope the discs will not be in sleeves like they were in the 25th anniversary release.

A comment from Bob Gale still haunts me regarding the old Blu Ray release. He said something along the lines of "I have seen it and it looks great, lovely grain" etc etc.

The original untouched transfers were fairly good for the time (2002), but when they arrived on Blu they'd been DNR'ed, sharpened and given ye olde Universal dirt removal pass which removed actual picture information in some cases.

Same here. Still to this day I've passed on the Blu's because of the mixed reviews and as far as I remember they never released them individually and I just never cared for the follow ups to the original (yeah, yeah, I'm one of the very few, I know, don't care, I mean they're okay but not worth owning to me...hoping the 4k's hit as individuals too).

Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 deserves better. It's sad but I have hopes both will re-released in a near future.

One thing that really stood out to me when seeing BTTF in 35mm a year ago or so was the decent amount of film grain that I could see, which you typically don't see on a theatrical print after all of the generational losses from the traditional copying process. So if a third generation copy has some visible grain to it, the OCN should be quite grainy indeed. I probably can't expect something like Glory in terms of a grain field, but I just hope I can see something that looks like film with a 4K release. Assuming it gets a new scan and is handled from the people who have done titles like Casino, Scarface, American Gangster, etc, I think we will be good.

I agree with you here. BTTF is my all-time favorite trilogy. I have this on VHS and about 3 different Blu-Ray versions including the famous tin from overseas. I will pre-order this as soon as it's announced for pre-order. Plus the original brings back memories from High School. Can't wait...

Just like Jurassic Park, I'm glad I held off buying those mediocre Blu-rays. Can't wait to get the 4K trilogy bundle!
