The heck with the porn. As far as I’m concerned, that industry already makes enough money the way it is. Personally I’d be satisfied if they had one of those FLIR cameras set up in our workplace, not just public places where at least there’s better air circulation….
so that we could find out definitively whose cutting the cheese all the time in the meeting room. ![]() |

The scene-stable metadata feature is described in the Dolby’s patent "WO2015017314 - System and methods for generating scene stabilized metadata". https://patentscope.wipo.int/search/...PCTDescription A video data stream is divided or partitioned into scenes and a first set of metadata (e.g., based on luminance, color gamut or the like) may be generated for a given scene of video data. Scene-stable metadata may be generated that may be different from the first set of metadata for the scene. ![]() The scene-stable metadata may be generated by monitoring a desired feature with the scene and may be used to keep the desired feature within an acceptable range of values. This may help to avoid noticeable and possibly objectionably visual artifacts upon rendering the video data. It may be desirable to have color and brightness stable over the course of a few scenes. In one example, suppose there are two actors in a "scene" but the camera cuts to one actor and then the other actor in a sequence of video frames - e.g., in an extended dialog between the two actors on one set. Even though this may constitute a "scene" theatrically, the two different camera cuts may cause color and/or luminance shift that may be both noticeable and objectionable to the viewer. It may be possible to have different metadata for each cut - e.g., in order to produce a stable appearance of the entire scene. For another example, consider a scene in a dark cave. The image might show all the dark detail of the cave. However, if the camera pans across to the opening of the cave (which is bright), an adaptive mapping may adjust the image accordingly - e.g., which may lower the dark detail of the cave walls to accommodate the new brighter pixels. With generation and use of scene- stable metadata, the mapping may be optimized for the entire scene - e.g., so there would not be a noticeable change mid-scene. For another example, consider if there is a single actor in a "scene" - but the actor is on the move and the camera follows the actor. Again, even though this may be a single scene theatrically, there may be luminance and/or color shifts that are both noticeable and/or objectionable to the viewer. For yet another example, the director may utilize a "dissolve" (or "cross-fade") technique in which one scene reduces its luminance (perhaps to zero), while another scene may start from low (e.g., zero) luminance to maximum luminance over the period of a few frames. Such dissolves or cross-fades may be used to illustrate a flashback for an actor on screen or for other purposes. |

Meanwhile, as a solution to dealing with the flatulence by those sedentary but otherwise healthy culprit(s) in closed room meetings perhaps I can take one of those NZT tabs they have in the TV episodic show Limitless and learn how to inherently block out the sulfur fumed triggered impulses travelling from my olfactory nerves to my brain. Anyway, I also like drifting a berm in 4K…. and plugfests too….. ![]() http://ultrahdforum.org/ Last edited by Penton-Man; 04-10-2016 at 12:19 AM. Reason: added the website |

NHK announced that most of their future Super Hi-Vision content will be produced in HDR. That is a major change in opinion since about 2 years ago they were skeptical that people would even want it. Also the NHK announced that both 4K and 8K will be called Super Hi-Vision so I guess they realized how much 8K production would cost.

https://vimeo.com/144316144 back in the day to the ITU, as live events will be a BIG driver for the sales of HDR tvs and perhaps allow me someday to actually see well the action in the deep shadows covering portions of the field at soccer stadiums like yesterday’s Sunderland v. Leicester City match. For those unclear about what I’m referring to, see the near side of the pitch here - http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/m...d-vs-leicester |

P.S. Something not covered in that old SMPTE 2015 interview is that in the production chain there is an external converter which remaps the OETF of the camera via a proprietary beta software solution developed by Sony. The software allows remapping of the original signal coming from the camera to the HLG dynamic range OETF curve and to the color space defined by ITU-BT.2020. |
