I've seen the new remaster of Die Hard (sans HDR) in the theater and it was lovely, the colour was far removed from the current versions which are much too warm (and I don't mean that as Revisionist Me, I've felt that way ever since the perma-tanned THX transfers appeared in the mid-'90s).

If Fox offered a UHD boxset of the Die Hard flicks first up then I'm not sure I could hold out! Die Hard is my favourite film and it was one of the first titles I bought on many of the respective formats that I've owned over the years (VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, DVHS and Blu-ray).

Did I show you the version?
The blue look of it, did it match the new master

I think you did but I can't find it in my PMs, I couldn't say yay or nay on the basis of a few tiny caps anyway. What I remember was how strong the primaries looked, the reds and blues of the lights on the police cars were vividly saturated.

Could it have had an HDR pass then? Sure.
Perhaps in an alternate universe. In fact, I would be surprised if that project received anything more than the typical 10bit log DPX output from the scanner (which does not capture all the dynamic range of the camera negative).

Discussion from Sept. 2014….

Now, best practice that some cutting edge facilities (which have the storage capacity) follow? Scan the neg and output at 16bit DPX. From there, uncorrected content intended for theatrical presentation is graded in DCI P3 space and for theatrical deliverables, P3 is converted to XYZ color space (12 bit pixel depth). For home deliverables (like for instance HD Blu-rays), I’ve already posted the color management pipeline explaining about the ODT and trim pass even revealing typical booking times reserved by Producers for the process here...https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...im#post9623181

Regarding best practice for a DI workflow? That be 16 bit OpenEXR....

You do send some tiny-ass caps though.

As for Die Hard, the UHD version on MGO isn't with HDR, has it been released elsewhere with HDR which has got you so concerned about it?

I thought it was, the 4k version at least my mistake, but the disc will be obviously, unless Fox make me happy and ditch it with catalogue titles

I can see where you're coming from with the disc-based version, as the two versions of X-Men DOFP on MGO are not both in HDR (only the Rogue Cut is, the theatrical is SDR) and yet it appears as if the UHD Blu version mit neue HDR will be the theatrical cut, so...

Yeah I just had the exact same thought looking at their line up.

Wishful thinking, they were correct the first time around (4K scan, 2K finish).

Indeed, the ASC article (now I've read the whole thing) confirms that it was delivered at 2K. [edit: I'm thinking that whoever's edited the IMDB info has mistaken the info in the article for a 4K finish]

But as Spike said, at least they've got the raw materials to work from should Disney realise that there's this newfangled 4K thingy doing the rounds. It's strange that a studio which always seemed to be at the cutting edge of tech is now lagging so badly behind with 4K. Still, Tomorrowland was hopefully the start.

You'll need a recent Samsung 4K TV with MGO to be able to download & view it.

but....but....isn't IMDB the 'gold standard'?

Haven’t gotten around to reading the AC article on Force Awakens yet, but so as not to miss a good opportunity, I can remind locals, as I’ve spoken about the venue and assembled experts before with regards to HDR

that thee annual ASC Open House is coming up in little over two weeks….http://www.theasc.com/site/news/asc-open-house-feb-13/ , just prior to HPA (the desert retreat also posted about for years on Blu-ray.com). If one can't afford the time for the later, the former is something to consider.
