The reeeeeeeeeeeason (that’s tribute to Geoff’s use of non-silent vowels) for this new feature of offering BT.2020 color space to bake in on a 4K XAVC recording of this particular camera is that the new generation of 4K Ultra HD televisions (as seen on the last page Video & Audio Center YouTube showing MotoGP at its finest) is poised to
deliver unprecedented entertainment experiences to home viewers. The combination of ITU-R BT.2020 wide color gamut, High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 3840 x 2160 resolution will offer brighter highlights, significantly more shadow detail and a range of intense colors that Rec. 709 HDTV simply can not match. Sony S-Gamut3 is well positioned to take advantage of Rec.2020 home viewing. Version 7.01 firmware uses Custom Mode to capture 2020 color into 4096 x 2160 and 3840 x 2160 XAVC recordings with the F55 camera.

That picture was from IFA, the retail versions at CES and the manual online from samsung.com confirm dual hdmi.

For some reason that picture saved tiny.

As for my other pix, no clue. I upload pix to avs from my phone all the time with no issue, so the issue must be with bluray.com

Oh, they're from your phone. If you're accessing all these sites from your phone and capping pics then it's no wonder, you're uploading the pics in their native res which look 'full size' on da phone but that's why they come up tiny on my computah.

Meeting sessions wrap up tomorrow.
So far the ITU hasn't announced anything about broadcast HDR though they are sometimes slow with press releases.

The Image Dynamic Range in Televisions Group of the ITU has been on a mission, which can be a complex task, to determine the best solution(s) in order to bring live HDR to consumers…..examining the pluses and minuses of the different HDR approaches as you and I have described their respective merits in ongoing discussion for at least over a year now, in order to help educate those hobbyists not privy to the working party meetings (like the early unreported NHK’s initial shifted gamma solution before joining with the BBC in development of the joint hybrid log-gamma proposal).

What is frustrating for me is that a time when the focus should be on HDR......and pursuing the best solution and obtaining agreement amongst all stakeholders, I feel one company (Ericsson), primarily through one of its spokespersons has had its own agenda and that has been the ultimate goal of discouraging 4K HDR delivery because of bandwidth constraints.

Initially (about a year ago) they started out promoting HDR with relatively benign resolution agnostic presentations leaving out or downplaying their true feelings about the need, or, in this case, lack thereof, for associated 4K delivery. Then, more recently, they’ve become more overt in pitting 4K HDR delivery against HD HDR delivery because the latter works out better for their business. I feel this has been counterproductive at a time when people (ITU working group) are just trying to choose WHAT (solution[s]) of HDR to adopt globally.

Instead of whining about *the hardship* of 4K delivery, fortunately, other organizations, aside from Ericsson, are stepping up to the challenge and Making It Happen….
http://www.broadcastermagazine.com/p...04010145&er=NA. And, luckily, physical media doesn’t answer to the same bandwidth constraints as does Ericsson.

Plus, those dismissive of 4K often seem to conveniently forget side-by-sides like that showing greater coverage of field with 4K as compared to HD acquisition….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post11671879

or its value for panoramic shots of whatever type of live event you may be presenting to the public….always concentrating on the seating distance thing for spatial detail with their rudimentary knowledge of the human visual system.

Ericsson does seem to think that 4K isn't worth the cost but I thought that several of the European broadcasters had that opinion. Hopefully they would record everything at 4K but wasn't the BBC planning to broadcast at 1080p100?

It would be a bit strange if ATSC 3.0 used 4K at 120 fps while the European broadcasters went with 1080p at 100 fps but that would be similar to what happened in the 1990's.

That wider field of view takes some getting used to when watching 4K sport, you instantly start wanting the camera moved in closer like normal. But after a minute or two you realise that even though it's much further out you can see so much more detail on the players, right down to the names on their shirts, and with the greater field of view you can see all the tactics, running off the ball etc playing out in front of you. Almost as good as the real thing, I dare say.

As mentioned several months ago and most recently last January, I’m on record as still favoring a dual approach standard with a way to make both work thru the broadcast delivery chain so content creators have a choice of either HLG or PQ. Stay tuned.

P.S.
In abouts 1986 a group of neuro ophthalmologists found abnormalities in the optic nerve of Alzheimer’s Disease sufferers and reported it in a leading peer reviewed (professional) journal. They were met with skepticism because nobody else could find the changes. They were finally vindicated when techniques to test their hypothesis became widely available.
