As an aside, The Great Wall received a special grade (other than the conventional theatrical master specs developed back in the day - http://www.edcf.net/edcf_docs/DCI%20...cs%20final.pdf at the Digital Cinema Lab) to use/show as a demo clip on this display last month in Las Vegas….to where I’m off to now for NAB.
Later. |

And there's me, not surprised in the slightest. That's not to say that all hope is lost for a 4K finish for Guardians, but considering you can put 4K 2D and 2K 3D into the same interop DCP nowadays it's not looking good.

Switching whatnow? He said it was "shot in 2K and 4K" (despite the native 8K capture using the RED) but where is it said or implied that he actually wants the resolution to change? That in itself is problematic because you're talking about two physically different sizes of resolution, so the 2K would HAVE to be upscaled so as not to appear quarter-window-sized within a 4K container. Sure, 2K upscaling is par for the course but doing it deliberately when you could go 4K throughout sounds just plain weird.

Oh, I saw the lickle interview with Lizo Mzimba and not for a second do I think that he's talking about the actual resolution changing on the fly, he's simply saying what sources comprised the final master, which would be entirely consistent with 2K VFX (as per industry norms) and 4K acquisition.

kudo's though for the 7.1 audio (which sounded amazing) and a first for DisneyNature doc films: a Dolby Atmos mix (sadly I don't think will see the light of day on bluray or UHD)

Not entirely, there actually is some real value as to shooting in 8K even though one might finish in 2K, analogous to the value of 4K acquisition used as a super sampled raw file for a 2K finish. To understand the concept of the value of super sampling, start at no later than the 19:40 mark (also from a previous NAB) and listen for a couple minutes –
