I think this may technically be the first trailer Warner has ever released in 4k. There are some exceptions. Matt Reeves has been posting The Batman trailers in 4k on his personal Vimeo page. Nice. Could be indeed the case. Even 1440p is a big step compared to 1080p on YouTube. Few weeks ago the new Jurassic World was in 4K as well. And that looks good and native. Beats the Apple Trailers version.

Lionsate uploads their trailers in 1440p for example.

Remember when the Superman Returns trailer had 5.1 audio on Dave’s Trailer Page back in 2006? Whatever happened to trailers online with 5.1 audio?

It is baffling it has not become standard for any studio to release trailers in 4K. I see third parties channels doing 4K trailers but i always wondered if they are converting/upscaling it when the official studio trailers are not UHD.

You can still find 5.1 trailers to download. Technically they are converted bootlegs. My go-to site is The Digital Theater. If it's an "official mix," that means real 5.1. "Unofficial mix" means upconverted stereo or real 5.1 cobbled together from multiple sources (meaning 5.1 from a non-English source and the dialog from the English stereo).

I'd say 99% of all those YouTube 4k trailers are upscaled. Only very rarely do they get actual 4k bootlegs and upload them to their channels. But it's still rare for a studio to even make a 4k trailer for theaters, even if the movie itself gets a 4k DCP.

Hopefully this Fantastic Beasts trailer is start of a long overdue trend and more studios join. Maybe one day they'll start releasing them in HDR too (Apple TV does that for all their originals on their app, which is nice. And Disney does one every once in awhile on their app too.)

David Sandberg says Shazam 2 is his first film finished in 4k. Seems like Warner is all in on 4k for their tentpoles now.

That's great. I wish Sony would follow suit. Shame they took a step back with Spider-Man when the Amazing Spider-Man movies were both native 4K.

I saw this last week via a 4K laser projector system and it looked great, the icing on the cake though was the exquisite Dolby Atmos mix.

While I could have seen 'The Batman' in a Dolby Cinema theater, I went with the better option in terms of a far superior calibrated Atmos system at the Showcase ICON instead, and I was not disappointed.

My friend works in projection, he told me that it was a 4K DCP what they received from Sony, the same situation with Spider-Man, he told me they also received 4K DCP.

Morbius had a lot of noise in some scenes, and some looked more like 2K files upconverted, but other scenes had a lot more detail.
