Given how well rattlers blend into the ground and vegetation, they can be a truly serious danger, especially if for some reason, they lose their rattle and they can’t alert you that you’re in *their territory*. One of Maya’s litter (not the pup linked to a couple posts above but, her sister), last year sadly succumbed to a rattlesnake bite . Such is but one of the challenges in being a wild animal. I respect coyotes very much for what they have to endure and adapt to on a daily basis...it put's the daily challenges of human existence into proper perspective, at least for me.

I could say that this is a pic of a beautiful coyote asleep but alas, it’s not. I’ve cropped out the portion which included her affected paw which was very swollen from the bite and covered with a lot of insects, flies, etc.…

This reminds me of thee ‘ol days of the Blu-ray vs HD DVD format war (MS SONY - http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/...y-sucker-punch

The practical thing is that since the Sony *puck* (full proper name being the 4K Ultra HD Media player) is not available to people across the pond, the PS4 will be a vehicle to supply 4K content to them (yeah, I know we’d all rather prefer packaged media, i.e. 4KBD, but that takes time and more effort), They’ve got a respectable number of preorders already - http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...97J0TZ20130820

P.S. Tip of the hat to Andy, one of the few V.P.s I knew who would respond to your emails within a few minutes…………………..on a Saturday! The man is dedicated to his job.

How sad. Nature can be tragic, as can life in general sometimes.

Steed, as an aside, I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Death Hunt ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=218323 ) and I don’t want to spoil the plot for you or others planning on purchasing this fine action/adventure movie but, especially from the start of the flick (about an outdoorsman caring for an injured canine…and dealing with the resultant consequences), I think, had I lived back in that time, I would have been, in many senses, Albert Johnson (the character portrayed by Charles Bronson).

A couple of old friends who know me well have even mentioned it to me in the past. In fact, after recently watching the Blu-ray movie at home with my wife, she says to me…”That is soooo YOU”.

After which I momentarily day-dreamt the life of being a mountain man in the Canadian Rockies back in-the-day, she follows it up several seconds later with…”Honey, now that the movie’s over can you please put the dishes in the dishwasher and take the trash out”. Talk about a rude jolt back to the reality of modern day living.

But I don’t want to end the week on a sad note with the news of the passing of one of Maya’s daughters. So, since it’s *date night* for singles as well as some married couples who still do that sort of thing, give me a few moments to search for a more uplifting tune to end this work week on.

P.S.
Good luck with Southhampton.

I remember that film. It featured an appearance from 'Apollo Creed' Carl weathers also. I remember watching this and also 'a boy and his dog'. Very different films but both featured canines and a theme of survival.

Penton man, can you remember a show called The littlest Hobo'? Talk about a theme tune of one's childhood.

Thanks for the good luck message, we may need it. Hope your boys get a win.

I see I misspelled Southampton above. I just don't have time to proofread all my posts.

I heard about it but never even saw one episode. I’m a bit curious given the fact that my family had several German Shepherds as companions when I was a youngster.

Where’s the tok?

Relax republicans, no, I'm not talking -

I’m referring to member Tok…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ts#post7982685

Tokster, don’t feel badly, it’s not like the consumer upgrade is in the range of a couple hundred grand, like if you’re a telecine suite Director looking to purchase the latest and greatest post production system…8K capability anyone?

The newest version (7.4) to be demoed in about 3 weeks in Amsterdam...

I watched the title sequence on YouTube and it gave me goosebumps. Brought back so many happy memories.

Steed, so far I’ve watched/listened to two Chelsea matches now which aired from Stamford Bridge vis-à-vis our new Prem provider (NBC Sports Network as opposed to Fox from last year). In both cases, I’ve been impressed with the vocal enthusiasm of the Chelsea supporters at home.

I think you were right all along…it wasn’t the home crowd, unless they've all gone batty over José being back as their leader.

So, I guess I should do the same for Kodak given the recent news of the judge approving Kodak’s plan to emerge from bankruptcy.... http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/...roved/2678397/

Saprano, this should make you (and others) feel happy because, long story short, if memory serves, Episode VII will be the first Star Wars shot on film since Episode I: The Phantom Menace . Long story -

P.S.
b.t.w., note to locals, these ASC Breakfast Clubs are really pretty inexpensive to attend ($35. general admission, $20. for Friends of the ASC). If you’re a Friend of the ASC ( http://www.theasc.com/friends_of_the_asc/ ) or I think even only have a cheap subscription to the magazine, you’ll receive heads-up email notifications for ASC events like this. At the very least, the Annual ASC Open House (February-ish) is always worth attending.

Ugh, the spelling and grammar in that was like it was written by a 10 year old.

Or typical product of the current school system.

Poor English aside, I think it's great that JJ Abrams and Dan Mindel is shooting film for Star Wars VII. The number of film productions seem to dwindle dramatically with the rise of digital cinematography.

I’m having some people (football fans) over for a barbecue tonight and we’ll be watching the match on a delayed basis. I hope the match is an open, end-to-end affair with the crowd as loud as the Cardiff supporters were. I really liked their spirit this past weekend.

A bold move to retain one’s leadership in 4K resulting in price erosion, which is not a bad thing for early adopting consumers -
