Good point, but I'm sure my information is correct, Panasonic will only sell the UB820 and UB9000 in the USA.

Do you have any information on the price and release date of the UB9000?

The Panasonic Blu-ray players that I have used before have been lacking with hardly any information in the INFO screen when compared to a OPPO Blu-ray player. That screen shot that Robert showed evidence that Panasonic has improved on the amount of details that are shown on the info screen.

I know some of these Panasonic players play DSD files but only stereo or can also play multichannel DSD files. It's very important to me toknow this as I need multichannel DSD playing like the Sony X-800 does.

In this new era of 4K UHD HDR Dolby Vision Blu-ray players, and 4K TVs, and 4K receivers, and 4K HDMI cables, and 4K streaming, ...it is very important to have all the onscreen information available. Short of that and it's asking for great confusion.

The 820 manual shows the available audio formats:

I've got a Panny player from 2011 that has the same feature. Every one of their 4K players has the same feature. It might be new to you, doesn't mean it hasn't been around for a while though...

So how well the HDR optimizer works? Better than LGs Dynamic Tone Mapping feature?

Does anyone know if Panasonic publishes NEC and/or Pronto hex codes for their players like Oppo does?

We'll have to wait until we get some credible reviews. However, it's more or less looking like it's just the UB900 HDR adjustment with a few tweaks. I'm feeling less optimistic about it.

Don't overlook the ability to decode Dolby Vision sources.

Whoever said it could decode Dolby Vision via the internal HDR Optimiser? It even says right there on the menu screen that it runs off static metadata:

Dolby Vision may be added to this player at a later time. It supposedly also supports HDR10+ dynamic metadata.

So why do they include the 420 in the January US announcement?

I did not see in the CES press release any mention of release countries, but still, you would think, since they don't mention the European model numbers, that at CES, they would be talking about North America.

I was invited to a private off site meeting by Panasonic BD engineering management. They showed me the UB420, UB820 and a mock-up of the UB9000. That's where I took the picture of the Tone Mapping Optimizer chart.

At that time they were considering the UB420 for the USA, but that changed a couple weeks ago and now we're getting the UB820 by the end of July and September-October for the UB9000. Not sure about Canada, South America, the EU or Asia, but for the USA it's the UB820 and UB9000.

Can we guess the price of the UB9000 by the ratio of UK prices? The UB820 is £399 and the UB9000 is £999, so 2.5:1. Multiply the UB820 at $500 by 2.5 for $1250. Note that £399 is roughly $540 including VAT, so UK and US pricing are roughly equal for the 820.

It's almost like the Oppo 203* versus the 205, US list price.

** The 9000 wasn't mentioned in that press release, but that's four months ago.
In Igloo country they sell Panasonic 4K OLED TVs, and 4K LED.
