Here's a couple photos of the HDR optimizer. What it achieves is a smooth roll off of the HDR peak luminance (specular highlights) that matches your TVs peak luminance capability.

Huh. How does it know what peak brightness to actually aim for though? All those other controls are doing is adding even more uncertainty if people want the best dynamic range mapping for their TV.

As for the Dolby Vision, I know you're a busy man but it's not rocket science. In the time it takes to snap & post a picture of the remote control (the usual plastic POS, glad I bought a spare for the UB900's superior zapper so I can continue to use it on subsequent Panny models) you could plug it into any of your X1E enabled sets, play a Dolby Vision disc and see what happens.

Taking the pic of the remote was very quick and easy. But it's not easy to get th UB820 connected to any of our TVs.

All of our TVs are wall mounted without easy access to the inputs and our sources go through a professional 18Gbps 8x16 matrix switch that has easy input access.

What I plan on doing is getting our techs to take one of our Sony X900F TVs off the wall and get a dedicated HDMI cable run to the UB820. The techs check in every morning to p/u the jobs so if all goes as planned we'll have the answers tomorrow morning.

Oops forgot to mention, but when I adjusted just the "dynamic range" setting in the HDR Optimizer menu the low peak luminance TVs tone mapped significantly better without blowing out the specular highlights.

BTW, how did you know I studied Rocket Science?

In europe it doesn't come with dolby vision from the beginning. Fw later in summer according to panasonic. So yours really have DV (even normal and not low latency) working?

I have communicated to the engineers in Japan and the USA so they know the importance of Dolby Vision HDR to include the low latency protocol. I'll test my UB820 tomorrow and report here and to Panasonic my findings.

I will do that again, but it's fallen down so many times and makes us look like a schlock install company. Sorry for the American slang word.

I know what schlock means. Don't have to be a rocket scientist to get that one!

De PORTUGAL,
The player should work fine in Portugal and should receive all necessary FW updates without worry. Like Robert said 824 is just the model number Panasonic are using in Germany for the 820.

Hello, has anybody tried playing back films burnt to 100 GB BD-R XL or BD-RE XL discs?
The DMP-UB900 is capable of playing 100 GB BD-R XL Mitsubishi-Kangaku and 100 GB BD-RE XL from Panasonic if the video bitrate doesn't exceed 20-30 Mbit/s.

I would like to know if they also work in the UB820 as this would be a buying point for me!

Do you read the m2ts BD and BD4K? Also manages the pass-through of lossless tracks DTS-HD MA, TrueHD, ATMOS, DTS-X? Read MKVs with 1: 1 BD and BD4K video tracks? Does it correctly manage lossless trace pass-through? It allows you to change audio tracks, subtitles, to advance with chapters? Is everything handled the same way by both USB HDD and network sharing (DLNA / UPnP)? Does it correctly manage cadences?

Cool. If it works with the stupid low latency DV Sony stuck us with, then I'll be getting on the waiting list. Excited to get this, hope it works over HDMI for Sony Tv's so I can see DV from my discs.

Looks like no news from Robert on the inclusion of the DV low latency profile means no go for this player either. Lets see if Oppo beats them to the punch before the UB820 releases.
