So even though x movie may not have been released in IMAX it'll get an IE disc from Sony? That's....weird.

That wording is weird and gives me a bad impression. I hope they're not planning on pushing the stupid IE brand over all else.

My projector supports IE, and ill check it out when a uhd i like gets it, but i'm not holding out much hope it will be anything special. Going forward, i'd imagine digitally shot films may benefit somehow, but if they're going to release back catalog titles with freshly scrubbed grain, count me out.

I don't believe so. According to the release, Paramount is using Dolby Vision (probably FEL encoding as that's what they normally do, which is great) and Dolby Atmos. IMAX doesn't play nicely with Dolby Labs. It would then be HDR10 or HDR10+ (which supposedly really does nothing unless you have a crap, low nit TV) and 7.1.4 DTS: X. And as a bonus, the possible misuse of DNR and Edge Enhancement, with the potential for an altered aspect ratio. Happy, happy - joy, joy. ![]() |
