I really hope Sony re-releases some of their previously-released movies in IMAX Enhanced.
Blade Runner 2049 in open matte 1:78:1 IMAX Enhanced would be even better than the already god-tier current 4K UHD. I know it goes against Denis Villeneuve's intentions (he wanted it to be 2:39:1 to fit in with the original Blade Runner) but the open matte version truly does look much better, especially if it is actually available in 4K HDR. Plus, 1:78:1 open matte versions of the Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy would be amazing. It is possible that Far From Home, Venom and the Jumanji movies would get IMAX Enhanced re-releases, though, but I'm not sure about BR2049, since it's a Warner Bros. film in North America and a Sony film internationally, and Sony never mentioned anything about re-releasing it as an IMAX Enhanced. Plus, Roger Deakins made his own DI for IMAX rather than IMAX doing their DMR version. Ghostbusters 2016 has an IMAX scene for the 4K disc even though it's not IMAX Enhanced. |

Yeah, I know.
But Blade Runner 2049 and Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy's open matte versions are in 1:78:1 in Russian WEBRips so maybe a 1:78:1 IMAX Enhanced version could be made instead of 1:90:1. Plus, it would reveal more of the image than 1:90:1. And besides, Nolan's films are opened up to 1:78:1 rather than 1:90:1 or 1:43:1 for the IMAX scenes. |

![]() And BR2049 may look better to you in open matte, but it doesn't to me. Far too distracting. It's been framed for one ratio, 2.39, anything else is w@nkery. |

That being said, Warner never seemed to have any issues with that, so I wouldn't imagine BR2049 being re-released as "Imax Enhanced" just for that. Haven't Sony/IMAX told that they're planning on releasing Spider-Man: Far from Home in the 1.90:1 format with IMAX Enhanced though? Maybe that's where this notion of IE making it so that we finally get an open matte version of a movie came from. |

I think Sony's upcoming 4K Blu-rays being "IMAX Enhanced" doesn't mean anything. It's probably going to be like the Superbit DVD days, or the "Mastered in 4K" Blu-rays from previous years. It's more marketing gimmick to give people the impression that their discs have an edge in quality over other studios.
It doesn't guarantee an "open matte" version of movies, which incredibly, so many people these days think IMAX owns the "full screen ratio". It also doesn't guarantee HDR10+, and we lose Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos because IMAX and Dolby are rivals. So what we get instead is the DTS:X soundtrack. |

![]() ![]() They won't, they have not changed a single ratio... Ffs the blind hate in this thread is stupid on a fanboy level I have never seen. The IMAX ratios are not always open or switching, if they are then they are also a valid theatrical presentation, just like a constant AR would be. Most people like the previous discs like Aquaman, Batolan and the like. If they put a sticker and a format they irrationally dislike on those discs, they would lose their minds. They would still be the same IQ I bet but in DTS with an IMAX sticker! |

How? You can't "open matte" something shot anamorphically at 2.35:1. Anyone talking these imax presentations of films is where they were shot 1.78:1 and masked.

I wasn't actually serious (more making a joke) and didn't look to see how it was shot. I was just playing *insert name of highly respected film* and throwing up a scenario after reading in the thread about that Sony comment. I'm all about IMAX ratios if they were intended by the filmmaker. But any other case, NO.
