I'll be waiting to see how many new titles they show/preview at this part of the conference. Insiders, can we expect specific title announcements, or will the following be more "general":
----------------------------------------------------------------------
4:30 - 5:30 p.m
Studio Panel
Westside Room

Studio executives preview their 2008 HD Media offerings.

Moderator: Stephanie Prange, editor in chief, Home Media Magazine
Panelists: Lori MacPherson, general manager, North America, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment; Don Eklund, executive vice president, advanced technologies for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment; Simon Swart, executive vice president and general manager, North America, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment; Miguel Casillas, senior vice president, DVD production, Lionsgateothers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, is Warner Bros. going to be there?

To me, this is the most significant event right now prior to CES 2008.

At tomorrow's event, no one from Toshiba, Microsoft, Universal, or Paramount will be there.

Thus, no representative from any HD DVD supporting company will attend this conference.

Why is that?

My guess is that the HD DVD companies are deliberately boycotting this event to protest the fact that Home Media Magazine has posted the Nielsen/Videoscan sales ratios and Top 10 selling High Def titles for every week this year and, of course, those numbers have not been too kind to HD DVD.

Am I on to something or am I just smoking some good shit?
I noticed that too. if you go to the official site there is no mention of toshiba or anything dud for that matter.

I have started a seperate link on this subject

I'm not sure if any of our insiders have any info on this but here goes;

Does anyone know how Starz/Anchor Bay view their sales of BD discs? I'm curious because I just loved them releasing some old horror classics on BD and I hope to see more in the near future.

I've sent them an email for more information in hopes of doing a report about it. I'm in Arlington, so its not a bad drive either way.

If I can coordinate it, I will try to get the demo setup in one location...but there are different things to demonstrate ... so that may not be possible as each lab is specific to its intended purpose.

Please send an e-mail with your name, address, and availability in late January to my assistant....Stephanie@rbfilms.com.

I will work to arrange a demonstration for you.

Thanks for posting this Paul. Hopefully we'll have some Blu Angels go to Rich's demo in addition to the "red ants" that will show up and possibly say "Well, I can't hear a difference" even when the difference is apparent.

I have heard on other sites and here I believe that Sony wants to allow some of the other manufactures to get their product out first to ensure cooperation and fair competition. Paidgeek is this true? And Any comment on the above street date for the next round of Sony branded BD players
I think Japan will have a full profile BD player/recorder out soon. I don't know when Sony will release a full profile set-top player in the US, but it would not surprise me if it was Spring or later...

Is this going to be a trend where current released titles are re released as 1.1 versions or is this just an issue with different region releases. I just want to know before i write my list for Santa.

P.S. Thanks again to all the insight you guys have bestowed over the last 6 months i have been reading this forum.
It is not our intention to do re-releases just to take advantage of PiP.

Sorry that I have not been on the forum lately. Work has been very busy and that combined with travel and the holidays as made it hard to keep up.

Some good news. I met with the folks at Sony Computer Entertainment America recently and met with a gentlemen there who can monitor and post hear from time to time. It will be much better for you to get first hand information from this fellow than for me to try passing information back and forth....

More good news, watch for promotions at the major retailers next week...

Thanks to all for your patience...

I keep seeing it pop up now and then.
I don't know of any "contract" in place.

Welcome back.

Would it be possible to get this person's signon name here at the forum so we can start addressing questions to him? I had a question for SCEA (a week or so ago) & I was hoping you could help "broker" an answer, but I am happy to re-address it to the SCEA person so you're not in the middle.

No, thanks for _your_ patience for all of us bugging you with all of our Ce and PS3 related questions while you continue to give us so much of your time on on stuff that both is and isn't in your personal realm. Glad you found someone to take some of the excess off of your shoulders. So many Blue companies don't even have anyone willing to post for us, and you bring us another insider to interact with!

Thanks,

Chris

Quick question:

Can an insider verify if Pirates 3 is a 1080i encode as stated on the box?

Thanks!

In the UK it says 1080p and 1.85:1 which is also different from the US box specs

It's a misprint. I just got the BD, and the TV's info (connected directly to the player for video) states it as 1080p. Besides, would you ever think Disney to downgrade?
