This will only happen on 2018 Samsung 4K TV's (for the US), and Panasonic in whichever countries they are sold. This is a rather limited total number of TVs. (compared to all 2018 4K brand/model TV sales.)

It's not too far-fetched to presume that the HDR10+ displays could receive special instruction set tuning per model for the 10+ metadata for the limited number of displays involved. Wouldn't really put it past Samsung.

Yep. And they're still pushing the unproven narrative that Amazon Prime streams HDR10+ currently. Eight months of this canard now; no customer has ever seen the HDR10+ logo on their TV; but this doesn't deter them from repeating it over and over as if it's true.

According to Amazon, all of Prime Video's HDR movies and shows are now available to stream in HDR10+ on supported Samsung displays. Sadly, however, the company doesn't exactly make it easy to verify this fact. While Amazon's website states that a specific "HDR10+" label is supposed to appear in the video details for applicable titles, this is not actually the case. Instead, customer service confirmed that Prime Video is still just using a universal "HDR" badge for all high dynamic range content regardless of the format. Likewise, the Samsung Q9 doesn't offer any kind of specific indicator that it's playing HDR10+ video either.

I know this omission might not seem like a big deal, but given the often subtle yet valuable improvements dynamic metadata can provide over static metadata HDR, OCD home theater enthusiasts like myself can't help but desire a clear indication that the format is indeed coming through correctly on a display.

Still, Amazon assured me that all Prime HDR videos do indeed automatically play in HDR10+ on supported Samsung TV models like the 2018 Q9. With that in mind, I checked out a variety of Amazon Prime Original series, including episodes of The Tick, Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams, The Grand Tour, and Mozart in the Jungle, along with Amazon Prime Original movies like Manchester by the Sea and Last Flag Flying.

So ^ Salty, PeterTHX, Steedeel, et al., bottom line is that with the delayed release, a superior product will be produced and not to worry about this happening….

I’ve been looking at upgrading to another Samsung Tv. My current one isn’t fully 100% hdr capable.

Looking at the Samsung UN55NU8000. Anyone have any input on its HDR? From what I’ve read, it seems to be a very good tv

Also not 100% hdr capable, and still pretty far behind too. I honestly wouldn't recommend any non Qled TV if you're buying Samsung because other brands offer better value/performance at that price point and that size.

Xbox One X absolutely killing the PS4 Pro in literally every way.

No doubt that Dolby Vision support will be added to disc playback at some point as well.

Gigabit Ethernet + Dolby Vision? Xbox will be the best streaming device without a doubt

I wonder if movies on the Microsoft Films & TV app will start supporting Dolby Vision now, too. They've had HDR10 support for a while.

True. PS4 Pro launched a year before the Xbox One X and is cheaper.

Clearly I was referring to the performance and features of the console, though.
