considering we HAVE got a confirmation that the US bluray does in fact have Dolby Atmos sound, is it a given that the UK UHD will likewise feature said mix ??

Just learned of this title today and pre-ordered it from Amazon UK. How many other titles are being released in the UK but not in the US?

Paddington 2 is another example of a StudioCanal 4K UHD edition exclusive to the UK. Also only English audio + subs... pretty sure SC would region lock these too if they ever got the chance.

Anyone know if this release is Region Free? I have a region free BD player, but my 4K player is not. The database listing says that A and C are "untested".

The BD is locked to Region B. If your standard BD player is unlocked you're fine.


All UHD 4K BDs are Region Free - there is no region coding in the spec. The Region coding on UHD players is for standard Blu-rays only, as well as DVDs.

At nearly 4 megabits it's probably an error. Even with 7.1 it would probably be around 2 megabits if it was 16-bit.

Yeah, I was surprised to see how little activity there was in this thread. The detail on the stop motion figures is really impressive and the colors, especially in some of the backgrounds and fiery, volcanic skies are truly eye-popping. And I tend to internalize when watching movies so I don't laugh out loud a lot even if I think a movie is hilarious, but this film managed to get regular chortles out of me.

Agreed on every point. The detail level on this is INSANE and great colour palette. I found no encoding problems. Top-notch blu-ray bettered by a top-notch UHD. Only issue as far as I’m concerned is the lack of language/subtitle options because it would otherwise be a reference disc for my French-speaking friends/family.
The Paddington 2 UHD (also Studio Canal exclusive to Europe) has received a lot of love and I really enjoy it too, but in my opinion Early Man’s PQ blows it away along with every other CGI-dependent animation whose UHD has had good reviews (Trolls, Angry Birds, Hotel Transylvania 3...). Shame the US never got a UHD release.
