It's a good movie, but I've only watched it a few times. Not sure if I'm willing to upgrade, though.

I can think of other Sly and Arnold movies I'd rather see on UHD.

Makes logical sense, there is a sequel coming out at some point.

As for blaming Lionsgate for Terminator 2... That actually falls on Studio Canal.

Didn't care for this movie therefore I'll pass. I'll much rather have Cliffhanger or True Lies on 4K than this forgettable at best movie.

So...is Lionsgate ever going to start focusing on good catalog titles, or...?

What are you talking about? They gave us a great remaster for Terminator 2.

Pretty much every studio (except perhaps Sony, and WB is probably 50/50) has been focusing more on recent titles with DI's available, and that goes double for a smaller studio like Lionsgate. The middle of 2018 finally seems to be the start of remastered film titles on UHD, so perhaps by the end of the year, we'll see what Lionsgate has to offer from the real "catalogue".

As for Escape Plan, with Stallone and Schwarzenegger both, I'm sure it sold well on video (I have the Blu-ray) and probably did very well on home video overseas, as well.

This is a fun movie, anyway. Had it come out in the 90s, it probably would have been a bit better, with a tighter script, and a slightly more epic feel (similar to Face/Off, which was, of course, initially to be Schwarzenegger/Stallone), but for a digitally-shot mid-budget film in 2013, it all comes together pretty well, and both men acquit themselves nicely. I don't know how I feel about a sequel without Schwarzenegger, though, and it doesn't seem he's going to be in it.

But I will definitely be picking this one up, as it's very easy to watch again and again.

For some reason I have never gotten around to seeing this one. Even passed over the BD when it was cheap a couple times. UHD? I'll take it!

Hopefully Lionsgate will bring us Total Recall on UHD soon, as much as they've double dipped it during the DVD/BD era (well, back when it was Artisan, really), they have to be right?

That, like Terminator 2, will be down to Studiocanal, not Lionsgate. Unfortunately, Total Recall was last remastered in 2011/2012, so that almost certainly wasn't full 4K workflow (film scan-->repair work-->finished master), which makes a UHD BD tricky. I'm sure if it was being remastered this year or next, it would be out, but as it is, we might have to wait a few more years for a UHD BD release.

What I would love is if Studiocanal would finally remaster Basic Instinct. Hopefully, by now, it would be a full 4K remaster, and would be released on UHD BD.

Oh I quite liked that one. Been wanting to rewatch it but holding out as I suspected this might get HDR treatment.

How did you suspect? What gave you the hunch?

Not anywhere near my most wanted movies with Arnold or Sly but it's good to see any at all upgraded.

Movie is quite good. I will pick this one. I wonder what criterion LG uses in picking up movies for 4K upgrades. Escape plan, Push, Source code...they are very random.

It's called testing the waters....

You use middle of the road performers to get started. This was a common tactic in the early years of blu-ray, to somewhat worse results.. think early encodes being mpeg2, lossless audio rampant... HDTV transfers overly compressed.

In this case LG is respecting the format with DV and atmos delivery. This is a good sign I would say. Takes 4K UHD away from 'niche' status to see some mundane titles trickling in.
