I saw a preview before Black Panther and was like "wtf Jumanji is playing right now in the theater next door..." Somehow it was even more insane when I realized it wasn't another Jumanji sequel but was actually a movie based on the Rampage game.

I caught this today in IMAX ($5 T-Mobile ticket) and it was enjoyable for what it was. I was a huge fan of the game back when it came out and just had to see a movie adaption of it, especially 30 odd years later. I don't expect to buy it on disc but if you are a Rock fan you'll have a good time, even though the script was on the bloated side and probably could have taken to an extra trim (especially in the beginning).

Managed to sneak out to a Dolby Cinema this afternoon and watch this. Really fun movie. I have no idea how it was shot, but it has the same natural, filmic look that we got on San Andreas, which to me is a good thing. I think it will be a very nice looking disc. Special effects were great throughout with the exception of what might have been the weakest helicopter explosion I've ever seen in a film.
This was the third movie I've seen in a Dolby Cinema (along with A Quiet Place and Ready Player One), and I think this one might have had the hardest-hitting audio. Sounds coming from everywhere and lots of lovely, deep bass. This should be a demo disc for people with cracking audio systems. |

Just recalling from memory I did not note particularly deep blacks in this one, which could be due to how much of the movie takes place during the day or well-lit indoor environments. The one nighttime scene I recall looked okay but didn't have a ton of pop.
I'm still trying to get a gauge on what to expect in Dolby Cinemas, but I seem to recall A Quiet Place and Ready Player One (at least in the OASIS scenes) being a bit inkier. It will be interesting to see how those movies translate to UHD. |

Thanks for nothing, Warner Bros.
Let me rephrase: I don't mean to say that I don't want 4K UltraHD releases to be made. That's not what I am conveying here because like I said I absolutely DO buy 4K UltraHD combo packs but ONLY when they are not 4K UltraHD versions of 3D movies that don't contain the Blu-Ray 3D disc. I only buy the 4K UltraHD combo packs for movies that were never in 3D to begin with, such as the case with Hacksaw Ridge, Inferno, The Da Vinci Code, and Central Intelligence. What I meant to say in regards to "Thanks for nothing, Warner Bros." is that if they can release a 3-disc 4K UltraHD+Blu-Ray 3D+Blu-Ray+Digital4K+SteelBook combo pack of Kong: Skull Island and charge $40 for it, then Warner Bros. sure as hell can release in the US a 4K UltraHD+Blu-Ray 3D+Blu-Ray+Digital4K+SteelBook of Rampage and charge the same $40 price for it.
