Saw this myself last night, and was expecting the film to be an absolute disaster on all front, but instead found it to be a fast-paced, uber violent, occasionally very funny comic book adventure that is a Grade A Cheeseburger to Del Toro's 4 course fine dining experience. It was designed as a commercial entertainment, and damn the Art and Mythology. For 2 hours i was entertained, particularly with Stephen Graham's hilarious pissed-off half-wit man-hog character Gruagach!

Looking forward to the Aussie release of Hellboy (next week). Will buy the UHD for future-proofing (as I always do now with new releases) and hope that the 1080pBD has Dolby Atmos like the 2160p disc. Roadshow (Aussie distributor) is notorious for sticking DTS-HD MA 5.1 mixes when their US counterparts have object-based lossless surround tracks.

I said to a colleague afterwards "That was Batman Forever compared to Tim Burton's original'. My friend responded "A throwaway funhouse ride compared to a masterpiece."

nah Hellboy 2019 is batman and robin. It destroyed the Hellboy movie franchise probably forever or until a Chris Nolan type director tries to do a real life hellboy movie

The new film may have destroyed the Hellboy franchise, but have you for a moment ever actually considered why the producers chose to take a tone that was different from the Del Toro films? Because the Del Toro film's couldn't crack the common market. This new film strips away the 'high-art' and fantasy trappings of the character and gets to his roots as a kicks-arse R rated action hero, complete with hard-rock soundtrack. The plot is NOT complicated, the action moves fast, and the jokes and one-liners are great. No philosophy, no poetry on show here, just an action-hero on form. My UK 4K edition is on pre-order, i loved it!

The Hard Rock Soundtrack was a terrible choice it was one of the many reasons my experience was ruined. Motley Crue has no place in a hellboy movie. Just do a nice fantasy Score. Ah I see dumbing down Hellboy for the common Idiot who doesn't read the comics instead of taking franchise seriously.

Also where was Hellboy in this movie all we got was a whiny baby who just happened to look like him?

I pre-ordered the steel just now. If there is embossing on that slip though, I may have to reconsider my purchase. The gray is unique, but embossed slips make me all giddy inside haha.

I got too nervous to actually dish out the $35 for the 4k steelbook on this one and opted for the $15 UHD copy on Vudu since I hadn't seen the movie yet. I wish I would have blind-bought the steelbook because I thought the movie was actually quite a bit of fun. Different from Del Toro's (which I love), but that's not a bad thing. I thought David Harbour was great and I wish it made the money it needed to bring on a sequel.

I love this movie. Saw it once at the theater and another time at the cheap theater. So I look forward to getting the 4k Blu-ray.

It will probably be appreciated in time. It's a cult film for sure.

Just finished watching my copy. Quite enjoyed it. Shame it was poorly received. I don't know enough about the comic book to know what it got wrong relative to it. The A/V is top notch.

Eh, it was fine. Perfectly middle ground type movie, worth one watch but I'll never need or want to watch it again. Story felt too dragged out and wasn't that great to begin with, and then was incredibly anticlimactic and the CGI was iffy at best. Something about it just doesn't click for me. I know it's a reboot but the tone just felt too different than the others... like Ghost Rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, but that was far worse of a situation since that was meant to be a sequel and this is a reboot, and it wasn't nearly as bad of a film as GS:SoV lol T

Was it weird for anybody else that the British guy for the Osiris Club was taller than Hellboy? Interesting that Merlin was Brendan Gleeson's other son, he sounded a lot like his father to me.
