Exactly what I was about to say, but saw this on my way to the reply box.

You gonna try for On Your Mark? I do feel pretty special being probably the only person outside Japan with the disc at this point, but I hope more people get hold of it. I can't wait til GenPion gets his and posts pictures

In other matters, with Kaguya coming next week and only 1-2 more films likely to hit the silhouette line after that, I've been thinking about how sad it will be when no more discs come out and this thread is no longer updated. How long has everyone been part of this conversation? I joined around page 23-24 of the original thread, in June 2011 or so. GC Riot is the longest active poster here!

Not if I'm missing 5 titles + Kaguya.

Ah, so then you have 6 titles in your order coming this week? That would make your original statement totally correct, then! aw, I really miss those days when I'd get that many Ghibli Blu-ray titles in the mail from Japan all in one box... I made orders of 7, 6, 4, and 4 to get caught up with the 17 silhouette titles that were released at the time, plus Dreams & Madness and the Joe Hisaishi Budokan concert Blu-rays, and a few others... what a treat it was to have a big box o' Ghibli waiting on the front porch for me when I'd get home from work...

I also made big box orders when I imported all 5 JP Ghost in the Shell titles, and the 7 Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Blu-rays...

How many of you do have Ocean Waves in SD in your collections? I picked up the R2 DVD in my last Ghibli order with Spirited Away and Cagliostro, just in case it doesn't ever come out on Blu - and so I didn't have to keep watching a fansub copy. But I'm still very much hoping for it to be released in HD - Please, Studio Ghibli, please!

Correct! Although they are 5, not 6. My mistake

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro ルパン三世 カリオストロの城
Cat Returns, The 猫の恩返し
Porco Rosso 紅の豚
Tales from the Earthsea ゲド戦記
Tale of Princess Kaguya, The かぐや姫の物語

Can't wait!

It's released in the Uk R2 DVD also but I have both uk and JP editions and I know Jamie owns it a few times at least heh heh heh!

I think it will be released on bluray this coming year.

Isn't this available in a NTSC DVD?
From the moment I learned PAL DVDs have a speed-up and the sound is actually one semitone higher than usual, I don't buy anything PAL.

I'm not too sure how to check but I think that GC and I have been chatting on the forum since late 2010, around the time of Laputa and Yamadas' release. It will be a shame when that day comes, I agree, but I'm confident that there'll be more silhouette releases to come; most likely in the guise of the early Takahata releases. I don't know how well the blu Rays perform in JP charts, but I'm sure it's a viable proposition for them to continue releasing catalogue releases for a few years to come!

Must have been expensive, not being able to buy DVDs from your own country?

And buy the JP DVD of Ocean Waves, then problem solved. You can find it for a penitence on eBay these days when it pops up.

But before someone told you, you didn't notice the difference, did you?
You may already know this, but Japanese DVDs are actually region 2.

I was just going through the old thread, which started in March 2011 (right after the Fukushima disaster.) You guys were both on the first page, I believe -- or maybe you came in on the second.

And me being in the US, I fortunately have three region-free DVD players in the house - plus my HTPC and main computers will both play R2 disks just fine. So I'm covered, there. Dang it, I may just have to watch Ocean Waves now, with all this banter about it here - I need to get a little face-slappin' in tonight, lol!

Does anyone here have the Castle of Cagliostro JP blu-ray? Could you please post up a mini-review (or to just direct me to one)?

Actually it's waaaaaaaaay more expensive to buy DVDs/Blurays in my own country!
an example: I bought Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 from amazon.com.
If I had bought it here in Greece I would have paid exactly TRIPLE the price! I'm not kidding!
Let alone that the Blurays I'm interested in (old classic films), don't get released here.

Anyway, I'm so glad I can buy Blurays through the internet and I can't understand when people hate or complain about importing!
To me everything is an import, and it actually saves me a lot of money!

No, I didn't.

Haha! Good times! Could I be considered the oldest active Ghibli grandfather on the Japanese forums then?

I do feel sad that an era is quickly approaching its end, and yet I can still remember picking up Ponyo in its first Japanese release when it was first released, and then Nausicaä and wondering how they could eff up the continuity in packaging like that. Now, several years later, the Ghibli collection is the pride and joy of my BD-collection, and this thread (and the one preceding it) has been like a second home for me.

Can't wait for Kaguya-hime, and since I've ordered it from Amazon, it should arrive by the 8th or 9th.

Happy Kaguya week everyone

Ahhh, the week of a new release. I'm actually very excited to get my hands on this release. I've seen it twice this year in the cinema in its original Japanese form (which was superb), but I'm itching to check out that English dub. I'm still very curious as to how it turned out. My jury is still out on Moretz, I remain unsure as to whether she is right for Kaguya or not. But oh well, will find out sometime this week when I get my copy and check out the English dub. I'm also still uncertain about the choice of James Caan for Kaguya's father. He just doesn't strike me as being able to pull off the more buffoonish (for a lack of better words) quality of her father.

Anyways, very keen to see how this dub came out. Plus I'm just itching to see the film again. It's definitely in my top 5 for 2014.

Actually, its a big week of Ghibli releases all around. At least here in Australia it is. This week also marks the release of The Wind Rises, The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, and Grave of the Fireflies (finally on Blu) here in Australia.

Granted, I already have the Japanese releases to these, but I have also been collecting the Australian releases so I'll definitely pick them up sometime this week. Been doing double duty mainly for the English subbed extras that the Japanese releases lack.

Yes, I can't wait to see it for the first time, the trailers look great. Only 3 more days - I should get my copy of Kaguya from Amazon JP on Wednesday, the actual release day, as they usually ship out new releases the day before - and it only takes a day to get from Japan to my doorstep with their DHL shipping... I'll probably see some activity on my order tomorrow evening, since they're 12 hours ahead of my timezone...
