The clip was flipped for copyright reasons. Also, as much as I do agree that Steppenwolf's face feels CGIey just like Ares' did in WW, you all should know how foolish it is to judge CG off a fuc k in Youtube link. If you want to judge it properly, you'd need either the DCP (which would still be compressed) or I don't know, a file with a high bitrate for example.

Pro Res files aside, QT 1080p/Apple trailers are still the "best" way to experience a trailer home. Compressed to hell, but yeah, it sure beats Youtube. Also, film clips online are always edited down.

Default My Opinion About the Film Based on the Clips

  • The quality of the CGI via which Steppenwolf is rendered looks great overall and especially so in closeups of his face. However, his movements looks stiff and unnatural; perhaps they should have used full-body motion capture instead of just facial motion capture, which I previously didn't think was a problem but now do. However, overall the animation isn't terrible but is passable.
  • The music is cheesy and very inferior to that of MoS and BvS. It lacks a consistent rhythm but instead constantly changes in order to suit the specific moments in a scene rather than employ a single rhythm that matches an entire scene.
  • The dialogue is great in a generic sort of way. Characters speak concisely and about simple subjects. Therefore, the film seems as if it'll lack the more layered, thematic dialogue of MoS and especially BvS, which required the audience to think a bit more.
  • Wonder Woman's portrayal looks like it'll be more in line with her portrayal in her solo flick, which is great. The line that she delivers at the end of the bank-heist clip is just as hokey and optimistic as her dialogue in her solo tale.

Overall, the film looks like a fun and well made movie but ultimately looks simple and safe. It doesn't seem as if it'll be as daring or interesting as its predecessors (MoS and BvS).

Looks like the Justice League vs the invasion of the Video Game characters.

I must admit that clip of Affleck on the roof with Danny Elfman's Batman theme playing (still the best Batman theme) gave me chills and gave me hope that Whedon is helping set DC on the right track.

Steppenwolf's animation still looks incredibly dodgy. It looks too fake. They could have done full body motion capture. Doesn't really matter if Hinds wasn't in the best shape; neither was James Spader but he still did Ultron.

Impression I'm getting is that this is going to be passable entertainment, but wholly unremarkable. Better than Batman v Superman, but not up to the quality of your lower tier Marvel film.

While I now agree that the animation for Steppenwolf is poor, especially relative to that of Doomsday, I think that the quality of his CGI looks great, especially in the closeup of his face. In fact, I think that the quality of the CGI in general is good (e.g. Cyborg, the Spider Tank, etc); it certainly doesn't look worse than that of Thor: Ragnarak, which looks very dodgy in the scene in which Thor fights Hulk in the arena (the green-screen background and floor of the arena look horrendously fake).

As for it being passable entertainment, I think that it will be good and heartful enough to be memorable but won't have as much thematic depth as BvS, the ultimate cut of which is far superior to any low tier Marvel flick and all Marvel flicks in general. Marvels films are simplistic and forgettable pop corn entertainment. Ask yourself, is anyone still talking about either of the Avengers movies or Civil War? Afterward, ask yourself whether or not people still talk about MoS and BvS, and be honest with yourself when answering these questions.

Whedon was asked to step in by Synder after the film was finished to handle a few reshoots. He isn't even getting credit for directing this. He also wasn't brought in to set DC on the right track (whatever that means). This is a Synder movie not a Whedon. Also a lot of MCU films are flat out awful. So the vibe youre getting is this movie isn't better than any of the worse MCU films. lol

If you don't want to think too much and just be entertained go see a Marvel movie. If you actually want to engage your brain in the experience as well go see a DC movie. Of course, this is just my opinion.

I personally love both franchises (even though BvS wasn't good and SS was a dumpster fire), but I'm an *******.

So where does that leave Suicide Squad? It didn't engage my brain and it wasn't entertaining.

And what was so thought-provoking about Wonder Woman, anyway?

DC is moving towards Marvel's style, and it has been ever since Suicide Squad. Heck, they hired the guy who directed The Avengers to oversee the completion of Justice League. Saying one is "smarter" than the other is a fool's errand, since they're now both going after the same demographic in fairly similar ways. Now all that matters is execution. If DC is going to be like Marvel, can they compete with them? Can they do Marvel as well as Marvel can, or even better?

There are exceptions to the rule. As you said SS isn't an intellectual masterpiece and I thought Spider-Man 2 was, by far, the best Marvel movie for it's well crafted story and slot it as my 4th favorite comic book movie of all time. Like I said....just my opinion.

Civil War was much better than BvS. DC isn't on Marvel's level yet

Civil War was forgettable (nobody even talks about it anymore, it left little mark), and it suffers upon rewatch. The flaws just become more obvious.

If Civil War is forgettable than I don't know what BvS is cause nobody cared for it quickly.

BvS still gets talked about online where CW has disappeared. It’s just blandly lensed and musically forgettable on top of that. The CW hero shows have better composition and sound design on a tv budget for that matter.

Mostly by DC fanboys defending the movie. CW was enjoyed by a lot more people. BvS is even more forgettable and not as entertaining as CW imo

A lot of MCU films are awful? Jeez you must have impossibly high standards.

The only one I’d say was awful was Iron Man 2 but that’s still entertaining to a degree. Even the more disappointing Marvel films (Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 3) are still very entertaining.

No, even “haters” bring it up from time to time. Not even Marvel haters bring up CW. It’s just not worth it. And if DC fanboys defend the movie, why do you think they’re defending it? Oh yeah, cause OTHER people bring it up first. Defense is a response, not the inciting action.

Regardless, it’s all subjective.
