Someone said the cover will have holographic elements. But yeah, it's the best cover since the theatrical poster.

Even better. I hope it's shiny like The Shape of Water which is subtly gorgeous for a slipcover.

I think the green tint will be present, but at the same time it will be much more nuanced and rich, with a lot of colors. Stylized and natural at the same time.

Don't you guys have the strongest deja vu? Remember all the waiting for Matrix, Braveheart, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan etc. to be released on Blu-ray, and now we're all excited about the same thing ONCE. AGAIN? I guess that's the life of movie collectors

I remember, but I'm having tough time recalling when this many top-tier catalog titles were released at practically the same time. We're lucky.

Tell that to my wallet. I'm not buying more than one box set or two single releases a month. So for May it will be only The Matrix and Die Hard.

To distinguish the Matrix from ‘reality’, from the Nebuchadnezzar and the pods, ‘reality’ was given a cooler look, a bluer, more normal, less sickly look. The future in the film is cold, the sun is blotted out, there is no real warmth unless it is artificial heat, so that is whey they went for the cool side. Whereas the Matrix, created by the computers, is a decadent, decaying world, so it has a green hue. These are the two different colors – green and blue. The Matrix should make you feel sick, and in ‘reality’ you should feel a little more at home, but never comfortable. If you make it gold and warm you know that it is home, a safe haven."

Pope also lit it with green gels on the lights and a bit of further tinkering when doing the colour timing during printing.

Doubt the 4K BD will show much difference to what the previous BD has shown, but hopefully it'll be a good enough transfer to do a LUT colour grade on.
While it looks good considering what it is, it doesn't give a good idea of how the colors were originally. Like many fan preservations, there are issues with certain colors. In this case, the green has been muted to the point that the design on the Oracle's shirt and some of the green leaves on the glass are no longer green whereas on the projected 35mm print they are clearly green. Even on the incorrect 1999 DVD which removed the green push (which made everything brown/yellow), they're still obviously green.

Reminds me of that scan of Raiders of the Lost Ark with the supposed original color timing where the golden idol had been changed to silver.

I thought the green tint was done on purpose for when they are in the Matrix world ?

Dumb question of the day...I'm confused by the press release. Does the 4k disc contain HDR and Dolby Vision? I'm hoping both as I have a Sony player and TV that won't be upgraded for Dolby Vision.

From the Press Release...
Ultra HD** showcases 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a wider color spectrum, offering consumers brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors for a home entertainment viewing experience like never before.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of The Matrix will feature Dolby VisionTM HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen — frame by frame.

Dolby Vision has an HDR10 core; every premium HDR format on disc (though DV is the only one so far) has to have the HDR10 core. If a Blu-ray has HDR it has to include HDR10.

So you'll be good to go.

I remember from that cinematographers article about The Matrix Bill Pope said he likes to see grain, so there are better chances WB won't **** with the scan considering that Bill Pope is involved.

I think that the typical Warners filtering is a given, I just can't envision it looking like, say, Sony's Starship Troopers (1997, only two years removed) in terms of grain. But as I said before, this coming off the neg should help to bake in as much detail as possible so that even if/when the filter is applied it'll still beat the pants off of the Nolan UHDs.

Sure, it's not guaranteed, but Blade Runner slipped through the hands of the melting butler... Even Sony didn't go batshit with grain akin to Starship Troopers on Pope's Spider-Man 2-3.

I'd love to see mild layer of grain similar to Casino Royale. No need to go Staship Troopers. But if they soften it a bit, 4K should compensate indeed.
