I wasn't even alive then and now it's come to light that I probably hadn't heard the proper mono (outside of seeing the movie on TV a few decades ago) until I got the Spanish Blu-ray last year!

But as technically impressive as the 7.1 sounds it's never felt quite right to me and this was a golden opportunity for Lionsgate to get it right, to include the og mono, but it appears that the materials they inherited from Anchor Bay have always had the downmixed mono, which hasn't been corrected at AB's end in almost twenty ****ing years of various DVD and BD releases! It took Shout Factory for it to finally get some respect, Rodney Dangerfield style, but we're back to square one with Lionsgate.

It’s not about ‘remembering’ how it originally sounded (hell I didn’t exist yet in the ‘70s) but about preserving and being able to present the original content.

I still think the 2007 BD has the correct mono, just in Dolby Digital, but I'll check.

I may have been leading people astray all this time.

Race you!

[edit]

You are correct, the mono on the 2007 Blu-ray is indeed the original. I suppose one out of however many DVDs and Blu-rays they released ain't bad.

I think my favorite shot on the UHD is when Laurie is looking at Michael across the street from her classroom. The second shot, more specifically. It's crazy good how detailed his mask is from that distance.

I was just able to successfully sync the Criterion Laserdisc mono with the new 4K UHD Blu-ray, and it looks/sounds awesome. Now I'm off to go watch it in its entirety. For those wondering, it was just a matter of adding some silence to the beginning of the momo track, where the new Lionsgate logo is on the 4K.

No fair; still at work!

Oh well; good to know I haven't completely lost my head. But I really thought that THX DVD had it right (at least on the theatrical version).

So, who cares? I always forget to buy my UHDs and my Blu-rays, and my DVDs, and my, let's see, my VHS tapes and... well, who needs movies anyway? I don't need movies. I always forget all my movies. I mean, it doesn't really matter if you have your movies or not... Hey, isn't that Devon Graham?

Criterion Momo? I think he's a character in the proposed Solo sequel.

Just to clarify here, the BD that comes with the US release does contain the original mono soundtrack, and not a fold down of a later remix. I mean as in it is the original foley/sound effects/music/etc with zero alterations.

Is that correct?

If so, I'm interested in doing some comparisons for the fun of it.
