You’ll believe a cinematographer’s intentions.

All your utterly worthless posts come down to, "I like it so you should too." Genius. Pure genius. And you wonder why I think most of you don't think for yourselves. You've got to ask Christopher Nolan first whether it's alright to like Dolby Atmos or not.... Geebus....

I just find it's funny how sub-standard CRAP is always excused by some as "intent", as if intentionally crappy is acceptable somehow....

Ask the director of Freejack if he meant for the future to be that cheesy looking.

Ask Emilio Estevez (the mighty duck) if every character he ever played was meant to behave like a B-grade actor.

Ask Michael Bay if he even knows what a script is....

I'm sure Luc Besson meant for Valerian to have zero chemistry with Laureline and chose a crappy actor for agent Valerian on purpose!

Yeah, it's their INTENT (not just crap) so it's OK.

After all, the road to HELL is paved with good intentions....

Yes, we the audience are clueless in all things therefore we are easily duped by such "intentions" as opposed to just giving it a lower rating for a BLURRY PICTURE or BAD ACTING or NO CHEMISTRY or CHEESY EFFECTS, etc.

It's OLD therefore it must be good! --Every Film Critic alive about every two-bit crap movie ever made in the 1930s or 1940s.

My current favorite is because Christopher Nolan HATES immersive sound like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, I do too! I don't want The Dark Knight in Dolby Atmos!

640k of ram should be enough for anyone! --Bill Gates

I guess I should have realized the concept that you can like a MOVIE, and yet not like everything about it is utterly foreign to most people who do not like to think for themselves, but insist on kissing everyone's butt that ever made any money doing anything! You're my hero! You made the bestest most blurry movies ever!

I simply must have the 4K version of that blurry movie so it will look extra blurry on my 4K set next to all those horrible non-blurry movies made by people that AREN'T the greatest cinematographers of the 20th century!

Nah, bro. It comes down to being factual information. Not EVERYTHING is a matter of opinion.

It's a FACT you like a blurry vaseline laced picture?

Someone clearly doesn't know what a "fact" is.

No, big guy. It's a fact that that he shot it that way. If you don't like a format that respects the original composition, stick with digitally manipulated DVDs. Then roll your eyes at a mirror, because most of us are here because we want to see the original work as it was intended to be experienced.

It's obvious you don't have a clue what I was talking about....

I'm saying you don't have to LIKE every decision the director or other person involved in a movie made just because you like the damn movie!! In other words, the guy complained that the 4K disc looks BLURRY and so he was not impressed. Someone chimed in about it being OK because it's INTENDED to be BLURRY so he should just eat crap and die if he doesn't like it that way because it's SUPPOSED to look like blurry crap!

All I'm saying is I don't "like" it being blurry either. Sure, there's nothing you can do about it at this point, but the guy should be able to complain without a bunch of god damned unthinking people piling on like it's the 3rd down at the Superbowl....

WTF says you MUST like the decision to use soft lenses to enjoy the damn movie? It's less noticeable on DVD or even Blu-Ray because you're not expecting it to be 4K sharp. The guy has a right to be disappointed that the director or cinematography made a choice that now can't be undone in an era where Star Trek "hazy women" was still apparently a THING.

NO ONE does that anymore!!! NO ONE! If it were actually a great technique, it would still be used. But that is NOT what makes Superman a good movie!
But apparently, I'm an idiot for pointing that out!

Yes, Superman was a good movie. No, I didn't like every aspect of it. The teenage scenes were a hashed over bore, better left to another show/movie to deal with it. The Krypton scenes were too short and the premise was absurd at best (California falling into the ocean). I thought Superman II was much more FUN.

But regardless of what I think, a person should be able to express their thoughts/views without a bunch of god damned MONKEYS attacking like bananas were just thrown in to the room on top of someone. The behavior on these forums is absolutely PITIFUL.

I can disagree with Christopher Nolan on Dolby Atmos and still like his movies.... I know that's hard for SOME of you to comprehend, but there it is.

Then go and make your own movie the way you'd like it to be seen. Shit or get off the pot (and, no, I'm not referring to weed). This is their art, not yours

At the risk of being pilloried, I agree with VanMagnum.

I read that Superman: The Movie looked amazing, so I grabbed it, and I thought that I had bought a faulty disc, it was BLURRY as hell.

Enjoyed the movie, but not impressed with the "intended" blurryness.

I think thats the main thing. I know it's probably going to look its best that its ever going to. But hearing it looks great then seeing it finally was a let down.

It’s had this same look for over 40 years...

It hasn't been available in 4K for over 40 years....

Maybe not all movies "need" to be in 4K or have HDR applied decades after the fact. What actually turned me off (I expected the picture to be what it is whether I 'like' it or not) was the Dolby Atmos update. If you're going to do an Atmos soundtrack update, do it like Atmos should be. Here, I get the feeling a Blu-Ray with either Dolby Surround or Dolby 5.1 (or perhaps 7.1) would do just as well or better.

Some movies like Jumanji and The Matrix have GREAT Atmos soundtrack updates. Other movies like Labyrinth feel like, why even bother? Well, we know why. It's good MARKETING to put the Atmos label on there whether it needs it (or uses its capabilities) or not. They know most people with probably wouldn't notice one way or another anyway (especially with "Atmos Sound Bars" and the like).
