Started rewatching all the blu rays to finish before season 8 starts...Is Season 1 in 4k much better than the blu for picture quality? I read it was originally filmed in 1080p and the 4k is only marginally better.

They're testing to see if anyone will buy the series in 4K. Not enough sales = no more seasons (except Season 8 maybe). Physical media is dying. Oppo & Samsung are out of the player market. If you want something on disc BUY NOW. |

And by people not buying those first seasons, there's no impetus for them to release any more, at all. (Looks like Charmed and MacGyver are in the same boat on BD.)

Yes, sadly, this market-testing method does not allow for the "I'll buy it complete" vote. If you don't buy what they offer, they can't distinguish between "No- that's too much" and "No- that's not enough"; all they hear is "No".

with S8 about to start in April and the Complete Box-set due out before the end of the year it really makes no sense to buy S1 4K now...I'm pretty sure HBO will be releasing a 4K box-set (if not immediately then down the road)...unless the S1 4K goes on sale for under $20 it's not a smart buy

HBO made the last season of Silicon Valley DVD-only after previously issuing the first 4 on Blu-ray. Granted it's nowhere near successful as GoT but still...I would NOT count on a 4K boxset until it was announced for sure! |

Two of my favorite (HBO-)shows are not even released on BD: Carnivale + Six Feet Under Big Love and In Treatment would also interest me. But again: no Blu-ray at all. ![]() |

People keep mentioning the Sopranos but that was very early in the life of HD disc - hell, it came out on HD DVD...and it was years before they got to the rest of the seasons. But the 4K market is a niche of a niche - you can't compare it to the Blu-ray and certainly not the Blu-ray of 2006-2011 or so where there wasn't any streaming competition and the physical media market for video wasn't shrinking like it is now.
