HBO is going to milk these Blu-ray releases forever...it's going to be like LOTR...first a standard edition, then the individual season 4K discs, then the Extended editions, 4K boxset, Ultimate edition etc

I will refrain from buying season 1 on 4K until a complete 4k set is released.

Started rewatching all the blu rays to finish before season 8 starts...Is Season 1 in 4k much better than the blu for picture quality? I read it was originally filmed in 1080p and the 4k is only marginally better.

I say it again - doing that assures there will never be a complete series set.
They're testing to see if anyone will buy the series in 4K. Not enough sales = no more seasons (except Season 8 maybe).

Physical media is dying. Oppo & Samsung are out of the player market. If you want something on disc BUY NOW.

I'll say it for the first time - don't buy just the first season in 4K, send them the message that you won't buy until the entire series is available in 4K. Be patient so that you don't have to double dip.

I don't buy individual seasons anymore. I have been burned too many times.

And by people not buying those first seasons, there's no impetus for them to release any more, at all. (Looks like Charmed and MacGyver are in the same boat on BD.)

Yes, sadly, this market-testing method does not allow for the "I'll buy it complete" vote. If you don't buy what they offer, they can't distinguish between "No- that's too much" and "No- that's not enough"; all they hear is "No".

Then it's a no from me. Pretty simple. Offer what I want and I will buy it. Don't and I won't. Pretty much how our whole economy works.

Sure. Just be aware that if this doesn't sell enough, there probably won't ever be more.

with S8 about to start in April and the Complete Box-set due out before the end of the year it really makes no sense to buy S1 4K now...I'm pretty sure HBO will be releasing a 4K box-set (if not immediately then down the road)...unless the S1 4K goes on sale for under $20 it's not a smart buy

In this industry where TV on BD is disappearing and more and more shows go DVD-MOD nothing is certain.

HBO made the last season of Silicon Valley DVD-only after previously issuing the first 4 on Blu-ray. Granted it's nowhere near successful as GoT but still...I would NOT count on a 4K boxset until it was announced for sure!

I really want to pick this up but I’m afraid it’ll be another Soprano set. I’ve only seen each season as they are released. Would really like to binge the entire series.

even on the small chance that HBO doesn't release a 4K boxset it still doesn't make buying S1 4K now more worth it...you can still buy S1 4K later

Yeah it's such a shame that "Star Trek: The Next Generation" with the A++ treatment didn't sell and we are not going to get DS9 + VOY on BD.

Two of my favorite (HBO-)shows are not even released on BD:
Carnivale + Six Feet Under

Big Love and In Treatment would also interest me.
But again: no Blu-ray at all.

I completely agree with but like others have said buying 1 season on 4K is a waste cause look what they did with The Sopranos. They only released Season 1 and Season 6 part 2 on Bluray by themselves then stuck it to everyone who bought those seasons and didn’t release the other seasons individually. To be these studios are kind of stupid cause I don’t see how they expect people to buy 1 season on a format and not release the rest individually along with the complete series set. As much as I would like to support GOT and other series being released on 4K but I’m not cause HBO has burned fans before.

People keep mentioning the Sopranos but that was very early in the life of HD disc - hell, it came out on HD DVD...and it was years before they got to the rest of the seasons. But the 4K market is a niche of a niche - you can't compare it to the Blu-ray and certainly not the Blu-ray of 2006-2011 or so where there wasn't any streaming competition and the physical media market for video wasn't shrinking like it is now.
