In other words, the disc is already authored at this stage.
True. I guess I’ll still get it since I want to own all 5 films in 4K.

Outrage? I paid to see this on Thursday before opening weekend. Didn’t even know it had been cut.

My “outrage” (your silly word) came from walking out of the theater knowing full well this movie had been poorly hacked.

So... if anything, a heroic intro for Rambo is at odds with everything the series has always done.
That’s fair. And maybe it’s my fault for choosing “heroic” — just don’t think the current opening is very interesting. And honestly, I understand *why* data-driven LG opted to cut it. But man do I absolutely hate that rationale.

I also hate the idea of having to wait a couple of years for a double dip if that’s LG’s game plan, because, as I said, I just don’t care to see this version of the film again.

Annoyed that I have to import a version of this picture that doesn’t feel incomplete. Sad end for John Rambo in the states, honestly.

Hell, the fact that we didn’t get this opening due to that cancer of quality cinema, test audiences, makes me want it even more. Thanks, but no thanks, Lionsgate.

It probably means nothing, but Zavvi has the runtime listed as 101 minutes.

Wouldn't it be nice if Lionsgate in the UK came to the rescue and authored the extended cut on 4K?

4k doesn't have regions right, so importing should play on US players? I have a universal Blu-ray but not 4k. It's stupid this isn't getting the longer cut on it.

4K has no region-locking capability as such. All discs are region-free.

If anyone gets the non US 4k please post on it's quality, since those reviews don't usually get done around here.

Anyone have any thoughts about which region to import?

Looks like AU, FR and DE are going to be the 101 minute version. I’m sure there’s a few more, too. Wondering if one label is worth it over the others.

I have no idea. Might go for the German release, as Amazon Germany has always been pretty reliable. We still don't know for certain that those countries will get the longer version, though it seems likely. The fact that they seem to be coming out later than the U.S and U.K releases is a good sign.

Edited: I just looked up the Aus release and its coming out around the same time as the U.S disc... I don't know ; importing from Australia always seems to be expensive.

Don't consider importing the Australian release just yet. Australian 4K discs get sourced from overseas and in the case of the Australian distributor Roadshow with a title like Rambo which is Lionsgate they would source the 4k disc from the U.S - and thus end up with the same shorter version. We may have to see if Roadshow will do this or somehow source the international version from elsewhere.

Good point... the release dates being so close, might mean that Roadshow might take the easy option and just licence Lionsgate’s master from them. The French and German releases aren’t coming out till late January/early February respectively.

I’m still gonna buy the U.K version, though. I really want both cuts and I want to support the U.K market on this one.

It's equally possible they'll end up doing some kind of hybrid release with the shorter cut on UHD and the longer one on BD. They do their own encodes for BD, which is often a bad thing, since they're fond of downgrading immersive audio tracks to 5.1, and in the case of The Hitman's Bodyguard, crushing the the video bitrate to squeeze a 130 minute movie onto a BD-25.
