I must be in the minority because I thought all 8 seasons were fantastic. I think a lot of the hate for season 8 is that a lot of fans were on team Dany. When she went bad.... they couldn't handle it. And instead of sounding like they couldn't see the obvious clues, they found other things to complain about.

Game of Thrones is easily the best show in television history. It also has one of the best final seasons and final episodes in television history.

Hopefully they release the entire series in 4K this year.

I agree with you. It is the only show I can think of that I could never get sick of. I have only been watching it for two years and have already watched the series 3 times. The saddest thing about the series ending is that great crew had to be broken up. The sets, camera work, costumes, make up, music, cast, etc.. were as good as they get. The 5 star rating on Amazon for the final season 4K set of Game of Thrones Season 8 is 77%. The shows final season supporters may not be as loud as the haters, but they outnumber them.

On IMDB it is ranked #8 all time for television.

5 of the Top 10 shows are documentaries. Band of Brothers and Chernobyl are 1 season shows. So it is really just Breaking Bad and The Wire that are really series that are ranked above. And The Wire has about 250k votes. Game of Thrones has over 1.5 Million. Much harder to be ranked higher with such a huge number of votes.

You can tell the actors all loved the show. Nobody talked poorly about it as the end of the series. They all really loved it.

It's kind of silly to rank the greatest movie or TV show of all time because there is no right answer, but Game of Thrones is my favorite.

It is a shame how few people have actually seen The Wire.

I saw the first few episodes and thought it was good, but didn't get hooked on it. I also saw the first few episodes of Game of Thrones when it first aired and wasn't hooked on that either until I saw the complete first season 8 years later. I will try to see The Wire's first season soon. I have spotted The Wire's first season cheap in some pawn shops and I want to give it a chance.

I enjoyed the first half of season 8 (though episode 3 could have been brighter/clearer). The second half was rushed, convenient, and kind of garbage plot/character-wise. I even expected that Daenerys would probably turn bad in the end, but the entire execution was lackluster from episode 4 onward.

That's probably why the first three episodes are 7.5+/10 on iMDB, and the last three are between 4.1 - 6.0.

I don't really have a high opinion of the IMDB rating system. A lot of those people just seem to hate everything, but I am mainly talking about the movie ratings they have.

What I dislike about season 8 and its UHD BD release is its picture quality. I own season 1 on UHD BD that was shot on dated HDCam SR and it looks good upscaled with an HDR grade, given that they've been using much better equipment since season 2 and they kept improving I expected and outstanding picture out of the season 8 UHD BD set but not,it looks flat, with little contrast and detail is not improved compared to season 1.

It was shot on Alexa and stored on HDCAM SR, which is still a far better system than people think it is. Old? Sure. But show me a UHD disc that has a maximum video bitrate of 440 Mb/s with full 10-bit RGB 4:4:4 support.

The word "greatest" does not appear on the IMDb Top Rated TV Shows list even once. The page defines (at the bottom) how it is compiled (by ratings):
"The Top Rated TV Shows list only includes TV series and TV mini series.
  • The list is ranked by a formula which includes the number of ratings each show received from users, and value of ratings received from regular users
  • To be included on the list, a series or mini series must receive ratings from at least 5000 users, and a TV series must also have aired at least 5 episodes"
Of course, individuals may decide which is their own set of 'greatest' shows.

EDIT: you can doubt the ratings as well, but you should know that they probably have already taken into account your complaints (such as "too many haters give the ratings a 1, which is not fair"). They require a large number of votes, and any decent statistician will apply an algorithm that (for one thing) dismisses 0 and 10 votes right off. And that's even before the main formula is applied.

Chris

Season 7 and 8 are not well written. Because of that, there is indeed a lot to critique and complain about.

A lot of people thought they were well written and they were certainly better written then Return of the Jedi, the Ewoks Christmas Special and the prequels. Yet, Star wars fans didn't bother to start a petition to redo that rubbish.

I meant in general terms. If they are ranking TV series I would assume they are talking from best to worst and that would be what voters are voting on. Chill out.

The funny thing is the crew looked absolutely knackered to bits by the time season 8 rolled around it was the type of show that needed to end sooner rather than later judging from the comments they were absolutely sad to go but so ready for it to end as well

The behind the scenes documentary shows that it’s a show that gets harder to make year on year the d&ds imo were absolutely correct to rein it in and get to the endgame ASAP without the source material

It’s a miracle then show looks as good as it does in the time frame they had to complete it they basically made a lot of movies lol

Fans gave out about lady stone heart not being included and such but if they introduced her and got to season 8 what are they to do with the character when even George doesn’t know yet ?

Stack.com.au which is owned by JB Hi Fi in Australia, has a listing for "Game of Thrones". This could be the long awaited box set. They are pretty reliable and only one time has a listing been removed that didn't release. So this could be legit.

Game Of Thrones | UHD 18-Mar-2020 TBA

Interesting. I wonder how this will be packaged. Currently have two complete sets of this series after recently picking up both the final steelbook and the complete collection limited edition.

Possibly just standard cases to keep the cost down? I decided to hang onto all of the steelbook sets in order to house the remaining UHD seasons, assuming they actually see release.

Word is this release is just a repackage of Season Eight sans the Blu-rays.
