Also I think this looks great on UHd. It was like watching it again for the first time
It's the theatrical cut BD from the 2011 Anthology set.

So basically, if you get the UHD and the Warner Archive 2-disc set, you'll have pretty much everything ever released on disc for the first movie.

Man this Atmos mix is soo fricking good and very loud. The only way to watch this film.
Disney should be ashamed of their Atmos levels.
Good on Warners.

I took a look at this movie on HBO Max, and I think it's from the newer master, just in HD and without HDR, of course. But the Krypton Council scene looks a little different than on the UHD.

I don't have as much of a problem with the UHD as some do, but there is definitely more color in the characters' faces here. At first I thought it might be from the older HD master, but the set and costumes retain the more subdued and nuanced look of the UHD, rather than the more blown-out look of the Blu-ray.

After all of this, I still don't know what's "right." I saw the film in 35mm a couple of years ago, but I don't remember specifically how different that scene looked (and I hadn't seen the UHD yet). And as we all know, prints vary.

At any rate, I thought this might interest some folks.

Whether it's wrong or right, I hate the drained colour on their faces in the council scene on the UHD.

How does Supes take off look for the helicopter rescue when he is far left of frame?
That is one of my biggest gripes with the Uhd and the green lights on Manhattan when it does the 180 camera shot before the burglar.

Honestly the uhd is all over the place compared to the Director's cut blu ray.

The takeoff shot is still pretty grainy, and the Metropolis background is still pretty green. Aside from Krypton, most of the rest of the film looks rather like the UHD, just without the highs and lows of the HDR.

Can anyone confirm if this title and Batman (1989) are still shipping with Slipcovers, or has that ship sailed?

Many Warner releases are shipped with shrinkwrap around the slip cover. So you can find them with slip covers long after you'd expect them to still have a slip cover. Don't give up hope.

Silly question here, but I went back several pages and didn't see it addressed.

When you redeem the code that comes with the UHD, does it give you both cuts of the movie, or just the same cut that's on the disc?

Technically, it only gives you the original theatrical version, but the extended TV cut comes with it as an extra on iTunes.

Thanks for the info.

I don't have itunes, but I am guessing it would be the same for redeeming on Vudu?

Generally Vudu gives you the extras when you redeem the code from the retail package.

I am shocked absolutely shocked that WB has only put Superman the movie out on UHD I thought that they would have put the Donner Cut of Superman II on UHD as well.

I wonder if the Donner Cut is just a HD master, especially with some of the (terrible looking) CGI they had to do, kind of like how Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director’s Edition only exists in SD.

I think it’s more likely we’ll just get the theatrical cuts of II-IV in UHD. We didn’t even get the Special Edition of S:TM on UHD.

Big knock on the 4K Digital versions of S:TM is that it only has the Atmos track based on the SE mix. IMO it has no place when watching the theatrical cut.

You will need the disc to get the vastly superior Dolby Digital 5.1 track based on an original sound mix. I will be forever grateful that it is the default track when I spin that disc!

The SE and Donner Cut were home video projects, done digitally. Neither likely had a film-out generated. Both would have to have their restoration and remastering redone at 4K and WB isn't going to spring for that unless there's a serious demand for it, but I will tell you that if they were done, they would be better than ever due to the advancement of restoration technology and processes and the fact that WB now has the original audio tapes from Superman's scoring sessions catalogued properly, along with the rest of the films. The next Superman BD release from WB - apart from the 90's animated series, which has already been confirmed - is likely the original theatrical cut of IV, which they found in their vaults.

Whoa, that's news to me! When did Warner find the original cut of Superman IV? Is there any confirmation from official sources that states they found the original cut?

WB did not make an official statement, but one of the fandom guys that is connected with the studio on projects said they found it while digging through the vaults, which is how the TV cut for Superman was found. The thing about the WB vaults is that a lot of stuff just isn't labeled or has been properly catalogued in the past - stuff gets thrown in a pile of piles when it gets put in there - and the studio is only now making headway into organizing and cataloging the massive amount of media and assets in the storage areas.
