Besides the fact that the transfer is different (but old) and some people prefer it over the 35 anniversary colors, it has two bonus features that were not carried over to the the 35th Anniversary bluray or Lionsgate 4k disc. These are an old (but great) Criterion commentary by John Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Debra Hill. And "Halloween: a cut above the rest" an 87 minute documentary on Halloween and it's legacy. I think also the original mono audio is included on that 2007 bluray.

So how likely do you guys think Paramount will license Halloween 6-8 to Shout?

I honestly prefer the 35th anniversary transfer used on the 2013 bluray and disc 1 (of Halloween 1978) from the boxset over the 2007 bluray. But I do think the 4k UHD went a little bit too much with the desaturated look. Curious to see how this new remaster is going to look like. I don't know why people keep believing the THX DVD and 2003 HD master (used for the divimax dvd and 2007 bluray) were supervised by Dean Cundey as I can't find any evidence besides speculation by fans because at the time the hype for Anchor Bay releases was big among horror fans.

If Paramount actually had a say, they would not have simply released repressings of Echo Bridge and Lionsgate discs. |

It’s true that Par’s parent company Viacom own 49% of Miramax (which is why Par ended up with the distribution rights in the first place) and would no doubt have a say in any licensing decisions but Paramunt themselves as a corporate entity do not. |

They do a terrific job. The Friday the 13th packaging was incredible.

http://www.dvdreview.com/1999/05/pro...y-halloween/2/ http://www.dvdreview.com/1999/05/pro...y-halloween/3/ The 2013 transfer is likely to be more desaturated than it should, but it gave Dean Cundey another chance to correct the look of the film during the nighttime shots and it looks great compared to the constant bright lighting from the 2007 DVD Last edited by JPLeon; 08-07-2021 at 03:46 AM. |
