Are you referring to the one from the box set? I'm not sure which transfer that was.

First disc was the 35th anniversary transfer and the second disc was the 2007 bluray.

Is what I bolded outdated now or are the bonus featured on it not carried over to the 35th Anniversary?

Besides the fact that the transfer is different (but old) and some people prefer it over the 35 anniversary colors, it has two bonus features that were not carried over to the the 35th Anniversary bluray or Lionsgate 4k disc. These are an old (but great) Criterion commentary by John Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Debra Hill. And "Halloween: a cut above the rest" an 87 minute documentary on Halloween and it's legacy. I think also the original mono audio is included on that 2007 bluray.

Laserdisc? I have this commentary as an AC3. Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Some people may prefer the older disc but, personally, I much prefer the 35th Anniversary color timing. Just my opinion.

Oh I forgot to specify "some people" in my post. My bad, fixed.

That is not Paramount’s decision, it falls to Miramax.

I honestly prefer the 35th anniversary transfer used on the 2013 bluray and disc 1 (of Halloween 1978) from the boxset over the 2007 bluray. But I do think the 4k UHD went a little bit too much with the desaturated look. Curious to see how this new remaster is going to look like. I don't know why people keep believing the THX DVD and 2003 HD master (used for the divimax dvd and 2007 bluray) were supervised by Dean Cundey as I can't find any evidence besides speculation by fans because at the time the hype for Anchor Bay releases was big among horror fans.

I NEVER heard that Cundey had anything to do with the 2003 HD master that was used for the DiviMax DVD and 2007 Blu-ray, but I recall interviews circa 1999 that he was involved with the 1999 THX transfer. I'll look around for some of those article a little later. I also remember there was a quite an outcry over the lack of blue during the night scenes when that 2003 DiviMax DVD came out.

Paramount has exclusive distro rights to Miramax's catalogue, so I'm fairly certain it is Paramount's decision to make.

They have distribution rights but Miramax’s leadership was unchanged. ViacomCBS only has 49% controlling interest too.

If Paramount actually had a say, they would not have simply released repressings of Echo Bridge and Lionsgate discs.

Nah, because they don’t own the content. Same with Warners handling MGM’s stuff: it’s the latter that owns the content and makes the decisions what to do with it, the former just carries them out.

It’s true that Par’s parent company Viacom own 49% of Miramax (which is why Par ended up with the distribution rights in the first place) and would no doubt have a say in any licensing decisions but Paramunt themselves as a corporate entity do not.

They do a terrific job. The Friday the 13th packaging was incredible.

Well, I stand corrected! I'm not up to date on the Paramount and Miramax situation.
Should have prefaced I wasn't sure, though it looked to be the case. Note taken!

The back of the 1999 DVD notes that Cundy approved the transfer, but the transfer was credited to colorist Adam Adams.

Probably he just gave it his blessing (a pass) because the movie finally looked presentable on home video since the Laserdisc and it restored the blue lighting for the night scenes. It was the best that the 1999 technology could offer at the time and still looks OK to this day. But theres no mention of him being directly involved in the transfer in this "DVD diary".

The 2013 transfer is likely to be more desaturated than it should, but it gave Dean Cundey another chance to correct the look of the film during the nighttime shots and it looks great compared to the constant bright lighting from the 2007 DVD
