With respect to the reports from those of you with the first one in hand, I am jealous but happy for you. While I will be listening to the ATMOS track, my take on the mono is that omissions like this are done on purpose. I'm not normally prone to conspiracy theories, but there is never an incentive for any company to put out the very last edition of a movie that collector's will ever buy.

As far as the discussion about the correct "look" of this film, I will concede that such a thing exists even as I'm skeptical of those who profess to remember how the original 35mm presentation looked in cinemas decades ago. What muddies the water here is the apathy of the creators.

Halloween 1978 is lightning in a bottle. The movie is a masterpiece made by some very artistic people...but I think people often give them more credit for their commitment to their art. Cundy's willingness to sign off on virtually anything as his original intent is surpassed only by Carpenter's self professed and often reported willingness to prostitute his work for a buck. There have been times where his quotes have revealed a certain contempt for his audience. It's no wonder that there is so much debate about the definitive look. It keeps the new editions coming. Everyone of us here owns several copies of this film. That's no accident.
Sort of strangely, my UHDs of 1,3,4,5 shipped this morning from Amazon.ca for delivery Tuesday, but Part 2, is apparently unavailable. So I guess my Halloween marathon will have to wait until later in the month.

Not really a bad thing, I guess.

Well thing is I'm already getting new 4k mon
I'm going to go sell lions gate 4k Halloween to game exchange few others movies tomorrow
I also get Halloween movies on dvd with 78 limited edition, Besides Halloween shout factory complete bluray

Again I wish there was individual 4k's on Frankenstein dracula wolf man since don't care about invisible man 4k and I only have those on bluray's dvds but not invisible man on any format had to watch on peacock see like movie or not which is silly

However because I don't want best buy steelbooks on those 3 monsters movies and individuals not available
I have to get that digibook/digipack thing that includes invisible man and don't want to wait a year or so for individuals

It's a shame that best buy online when I order 78 Halloween few days ago for shipping Halloween 2 wasnt available foe shipping instead pre order only had to worry about 3-5 yes I know best buy screwed up released 78 Halloween early from shout factory
I want to buy every 4k and TV shows coming out this month but I can't deal with birthdays 3 folks my brother wife 2 daughters hence I have to wait on stuff
That is why can't figure out which one should get 1st come Tuesday it's complicated

So I watched the 35th Anniversary Blu-ray in Shouts boxset and while detailed, the colour looked a bit off like it had been drained/muted. How's the new 4k compare?

Hey, jman, I'm glad you're here, enjoying the site and are able to collect a lot of your favorite movies. It's true that the rest of us don't know what kind of money you have available. We can't decide for you which movie is more important to you. If you're having trouble with your money, you can hopefully ask a family member to help you figure out what you can spend.

Don't stress out too much about which movie you buy. If you can't afford one today, you will probably be able to get it later on. The exclusive versions may sell out quickly, so those are the ones you should buy first, if you really want them. If they're not exclusive, just buy the movie you like better now and wait to get another one later. Just flip a coin if you can't decide, because there's no wrong answer. And you should definitely buy gifts for your family first. Your family is more important than any movie. It shows you're a good person because you're thinking about them and don't want to forget about their gifts.

i'm just frustrated with my life these days this covid crap not going anywhere basically hate life in general.

don't hardly have any friends hang out to do with already got burnt twice this year 2 so called friends bail me out on me thought was going to do something.

like I would loved go see raw tomorrow night in Nashville but due to covid junk bad lungs I can't go nor can't even go see alan Jackson this Friday either in Nashville

i think i'm more miserable then ever since covid i can't even go back planet fitness just hated sitting at home 24/7 half time and my sorry town i do same thing nothing new plus fact I don't want to wear a mask again and my mom saying I should

my dad will either take game exchange sometimes where i sell movies go to theater or Walmart besides something eat or me kindof order something bad lunch sometimes that's it i am back on doing ddp yoga again not really following plan besides exercising

since I don't have a target or a best buy in my town I either order stuff for shipping from mecari bullmoose amazon target or ebay half time

i guess in a nutshell internet is where i vent let out my frustrations esp being on here figuring out what next new 4k movie coming out or tv show to get ha

besides my love of movies and wrestling those 2 are only things i'm passionate and will talk about my parents think i should get medicine talk to somebody therapist<-i did 2 times in past didn't work out so well or try to be 1 of those group homes take me places yada yada think i be happy

however i don't want that my mind isn't normal like folks i don't care about things major things like getting covid or other people feelings much it's not my fault something wrong with my brain that's way it is

1 of my friends asked me who is going rough time other day told me if you have to wait 3 months for results cancer or not you be scared

my answer nope I will not be scared don't care will fight it bring it on so to speak

oh money wise I don't get much prob 400 monthy<-I think no real sure unless look in joint checkbook with my dad It's not much however
I get paid 3rd of every month by social security yes I help pay for stuff like internet rent etc etc then I pay stuff on my own like Netflix amc a list hulu etc etc I do kindof spend my money mostly on rebuying movies again besides food sometimes

my brother did like set up vimeo account last month to slip in some money transfer to bank here and there perhaps 10 or 20 bucks for an example since he doesn't always have cash on him

I also had the honor of getting y2jman in my PM’s (You are a good man no matter what, keep it up), but honestly my strangest DM moment was last month when one of the guy’s from the Anime forums DMed me asking for my Global TV login

I don’t have Global TV/STACK TV for starters…

Edit: looked at that DM again, turns out he only asked if I had a Global TV login and not for my login directly. Still odd just the same.

Hey, jman, a lot of us are frustrated with COVID-related things, so you're not alone. Just be grateful you and your family are still safe and alive. You should definitely try to stay safe from it if you have health issues with your lungs.

COVID will most likely be over in the future. We just don't know for sure when yet.

Every one of us is different and has different health issues and needs. It's not your fault at all and there's nothing wrong with being the way you are. Your parents know you best, better than people on the internet do, so I hope you consider whatever advice they give you.

A lot of people are watching more movies and TV during the pandemic so hopefully you can get happiness out of that. When we're at a low point in life, things always get better in the future. So don't give up hope for the future.

If your family can suggest that you try something different that might make you feel better, you might want to try it. Sometimes it helps to try doing something different to make our lives better.

I spot-checked it with the HDR10 layer only and the compression isn’t as good as it is in Dolby Vision. It’s not a train wreck at all either but the film grain can look a bit funky depending on the specific shot. Sometimes it looks completely fine and in other shots it can look suspect. It’s a combination of mild macroblocking and looking a little frozen. But again, in the next shot it’ll look completely fine.

However, I was checking the standard blu-ray and I’d say even the standard blu-ray looks better than the Lionsgate 4K release because it still keeps the better color scheme, same audio options, and the compression is more consistent (vs the HDR10 from the Shout! 4K disc) and almost reference quality for a standard blu-ray.

If you can play it in Dolby Vision then the Shout! 4K disc is the way to go. Not perfect but still pretty darn good overall and the best it has ever looked (the compression still isn’t spotless in Dolby Vision but it’s good overall). If you’re limited to HDR10 then it’s more of a YMMV thing. If you’re very sensitive to how film grain is handled you might prefer to stick to this new standard blu-ray which is included with this 4K release. Otherwise you might be fine with HDR10 layer only even if the compression isn’t the best.

I’m waiting to see if I can take direct screenshots in my computer to post a full review but I haven’t had any luck so far with the software I use to read the 4K discs and take them.

Also I forgot to address this part:
I haven't tweaked the image manually. The conversion from HDR to SDR is done by MadVR's algorithms. I suspect Hidef digest of altering their screenshots manually, but I do not do this. What you see is the SDR conversion done by the video software. Yes HDR will look different, but this is not manually edited to my personal preference, let us be clear on that.

Everyone who uses MadVR to play HDR videos on an SDR display will get this identical result.

We really need a thread for everyone to just generally be here for each other, clearly it has potential to be beneficial for some or all of us. I love to see support for one another though!

Yet to see the Zombie films. Enjoy the whole series otherwise, even the lackluster efforts are fun. I don't think I'll watch 8 any time soon though.
