I'll sound like an ass here, but I don't care because it needs to be said. I would argue the majority of users on here, especially in this sub-forum, are not that informed. More often than not, people are complaining about a disc being too dark, an HDR grade being too reserved, or a film not having a native 4K-DI to actually just sit back and allow their setup and this format to operate as intended; WHICH IS TO PRESERVE CREATIVE INTENT. That 'Heat' UHD thread can't be referenced enough. Because there were more than a handful of users on there that incoherently *****ed about the transfer, despite that film never looking better. Also, I did concede that the 4K scan and HDR pass itself for the Scream Factory version of 'Halloween' is probably the best the film has ever looked. But it also isn't like the Lionsgate version was somehow bad or inaccurate either. Cundy has done so many passes for home releases for this film now, that it's hard to truly nail down what you would call a definitive version. At the end of the day, the Lionsgate disc still uses a recent 4K scan itself, with an adequate enough HDR grade -- but pulls FAR away from the SF version with its substantially better encode alone. |

And yes Sweetie I do realise the irony of me raging against the mass-consumption machine in this thread whilst telling you to stop doing the same in Marvel thread #57. Hypocrisy, maybe. Different priorities? Yeah let’s go with that

I don't think it's ironic. We all have our passions for what we feel comfortable in expressing our opinions about -- be it positive or negative, even if it can sometimes feel more one-sided in the case of the latter from time to time.

I don't get what all the fuss is about in terms of the compression for these releases. Is it perfect? No. They're better than a lot of StudioCanal releases though, and many people tolerate those. Compression is really the only negative I can see (other than SF's ignorance towards the tit glitch in the HDR10 layer of HII). Artwork is acceptable but you have the option of reversing the covers to the original poster art, these things are loaded with extras, there are many audio options to fit your tastes, plus these are a major step up in picture quality from the blu-rays, especially HIII onward. I would've gotten them all by now if it weren't for their retention of a $25+ price tag.

The audio is that neutered lossy track too. This release doesn't hold a candle to Arrow's best, Kino's best, even Shout's own best.
Would also like to point out I've noticed a pattern amongst different hobbies and such wherein the first to loudly exclaim "don't complain, you're entitled, etc" are usually the ones demanding things be done their way when they don't like the outcome. Conversational controllers I guess! They know what is actually bad and what's actually good because everything is black and white. Oh well time to consume again. |

Will 99.9% of people just look at it as one set of random noise being replaced by another, if they even notice it at all? Sure. And I’m happy for them, truly. But for me it’s unwatchable in HDR10 and barely salvageable in Dobly. |

These have been out for almost a year now. 3-5 are really fine, yeah, minus HDR she-hulk titty part 2 needed to be cleaned up. Then part 1 needs a full redo, sorry. Did it even have a lossless PCM type track in Mono, eh neither does Friday The 13th 1-4 just those old Mono 192Kbps tracks. I guess people don't ***** enough, or lack any audio technical knowledge if you ask me. TCM did it first and did it right, albeit no USA release in 4K. Garbage 4King dumpster diving audio. wooo
