I still hope Superman Returns gets a 4K UHD standalone release.

I made a post in the Wishlist section here regarding the rest of the Christopher Reeve movies on 4K. Lazy copy and paste but there needed to be a separate thread.
SUPERMAN II 4K; SUPERMAN III 4K; SUPERMAN IV: The Quest for Peace 4K
Better to wait and see. At least CapedWonder is a more reliable source compared to Bill Hunt.

These are shaping up to be potentially incredible releases — give them to me NOW!

I don’t personally mind the lack of TV cuts but we definitely need the Special Edition of STM and the Richard Donner Cut of STII.

Yeah the main thing I feel is missing (based on this early info at least) is the expanded edition cut of the first film. It would be odd to have all four movies, plus the Donner Cut of II, but needing to keep the Anthology Blu-Ray just for that.

Superman Returns would be nice, too. I understand from a current events/marketing angle WB probably considers it a bit problematic, but if anything all the more reason to add it to a set rather than try to release it separately later.

.
The International cut of of Supergirl that Warner Archive released is longer than the US theatrical cut, so technically they are actually correct. The extended TV cut of Supergirl has been branded as either that or the "Director's cut".

Not sure it warrants being posted in all 10 threads...

Eh, really wish studios would stop using that excuse. Thousands of people worked on that movie not just Singer and Spacey(who once again has been acquitted). Michael Jackson had a slew of accusations against him, but his music still mushed on strong, even more so after his death.

Hopefully they release it like the Burton/Schumacher films, a box with all four films and individually. And keep Superman Returns away from it altogether.

Warner Archive only released the Theatrical/International Cut on BD and the Longer Cut/"Director's Cut" on DVD only in the release, should have been a BD, regarding SUPERGIRL. I still own the below.

Reason why I made multiple threads is because it's for eventual official announcements regarding release instead of rumors. Still have the below regarding SUPERMAN: The Movie. Would have preferred if the Dolby Digital 5.1 were lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 instead. Maybe with this rumored 4K boxset.

The International cut is longer than the US theatrical - which was my point.
Hence that website is saying the "extended cut" was released on blu-ray.

Weird, I always associated the extended cut being the Director's Cut and not the International Cut. Here's what Movie-Censorship has regarding the difference between both cuts.
If only Richard Donner remained on the movies, originally SUPERMAN I & II, and the original script for SUPERMAN III. But without Mr. Mxyzptlk, replaced with Metallo instead.
Wonder if Warner Archive will also have the TV Cuts on BD for SUPERMAN II & III i.e. SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE Extended TV Cut BD. No clue regarding SUPERMAN IV: The Quest for Peace.

I'm most excited about the Donner Cut of 2 getting the 4k treatment. I wouldn't have bought it at all if it was just the Lester Cut. I wouldn't mind them slapping that reconstructed Saul Bass logo at the front of it like they did for their 4k of Mad Max. I know it was made in 06 but the mid 2000s WB logo seems out of place on it.

George Feltenstein at Warner Archive has now confirmed that they DO have a copy of a 134-minute cut of SUPERMAN IV, this has been mentioned here numerous times in this thread or the related threads. What has NOT been confirmed by Warner Bros. or Feltenstein is whether that actually have prints/decent versions of II or III extended or TV cuts. And even what they have of IV is apparently only "workprint" quality I.E. the Deleted Scenes on the recent DVDs/Blu-rays. So I wouldn't get my hopes up for a full restoration of that one...but I do hope they'd be able to release that cut in some form or fashion coming up! They probably want to see how the 4Ks of the main films sell first! But I believe that the TV/Extended Cut of 1978's Superman sold well for Warner Archive...so let's cross our fingers!

Interesting. Where did they confirm that?

They absolutely have II's TV cut in some form. Not necessarily a pristine print like the first movie, which was said to be a lucky find. But they at least have a widescreen version. The deleted scenes included on the Donner cut come straight from it.

It likely will be retained since it was considered a “new” film for the time. It’d be a pleasant surprise if they could redo some of the shoddy effects work in the Donner cut, which I understand was due to a deadline. A more polished sound mix would be appreciated as well. The Saul Bass logo will be welcomed with open arms for me in the theatrical cut of II along with III. The Outsiders 4K also rectified a changed made in the initial Blu-ray release of the Complete Novel that replaced the Bass logo with the then modern shield logo, despite Coppola’s commentary stating it’s the Bass logo.

The last inquiry I heard about that was that the print that sourced those was misplaced. Hopefully they’ve taken the time to find it again.

Wow. I hadn't heard that. That's just sad.... It's the best overall version of the movie IMO, and would love an official release... Sure hope it can be found. You'd think things like that would be better taken care of, especially since they already had been for over 20 years until that point.

Of course, Supergirl's 134 minute "Director's Cut" couldn't be found either anymore for the Blu-ray (again, how does that happen??), but they at least were able to include the DVD for that.

This is awesome news, I've held off buying Superman The Movie because of the known issues. I hope they do a nice set of the 4 movies. Something a little special that the best Superman (Christopher Reeve) deserves.

They should leave Superman's suit green for the 2 shots(saving the cat in Brooklyn and Jimmy at the Dam).

That's the original look even if it was incorrect and induced by either time constraints or technical deficencies.
But that is what audiences in 1978 saw and that is what should be preserved for the afficianados.

Maybe they could do a quick seemless branch and give the option:

Superman in Green for those 2 shots.

Superman in Blue for those 2 shots.

Should be pretty easy to pull off , considering how complex the seemless branching on the Close Encounters Blus and UHDs are.

Also good to see others on here in favour of the retention of the original Saul Bass logos for Superman II and III.

Never understood the reasoning behind the decision to impose the new
WB logos on the VHSs,DVDs and Blus in the 2000s and beyond(but only for SII and III).

Especially when they retained Superman The Movie's original Saul Bass logo!?

My only theory could be that those negs, interpositives for that particular Logo are too beat up and would not withstand the scrutiny of hidef.

Having said that, the Blu for The Outsiders has that very elusive logo(in the digital age) and it looked to be in excellent condition.

So let's see it placed back in it's rightful place at the beginning of Superman II and III.

Also(not a biggie).

Could we have 1080p trailers(teasers and all) for all 4 films.

Be particularly nice to have the international trailer for Superman III in hidef.
It's an awesome trailer:
