Dolby Digital 5.1 at 640 kbps is basically transparent to the source, anyway...

It's DOUBLE the bitrate of theatrical Dolby Digital

So we’ve confirmed that the 70mm 5.1 mix isn’t hiding in the Atmos track? I was holding out a tiny bit of hope that that’d be the case.

Like what we've been over before, that's not how Atmos on Blu-ray and Kalaidescape home video works. The 7.1 core track is a fold down of the Atmos remix.

I foolishly sold my UK UHD (including the special edition blu-ray) when it was thought Warner was releasing a new transfer. Last week I bought a new copy from Rarewaves because it was cheap - I've just checked and it has the Atmos and 5.1 tracks. Interestingly, the included digital code has an 'expiry' date of December 2019. And the special edition blu-ray is again included despite the back of the box saying it's the theatrical cut.

Is the special edition blu-ray only included in the UK release? Going to watch this at a local Cinemark tonight. Stoked!

I'll have to keep my eye open for more of these rereleases, I've been to Blade Runner & Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It'd be amazing if they also screened Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut!
At my local Regal they did in fact screen Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut along with the first movie.

As far as other rereleases, next week many theatres will be showing Return of the Jedi. And Fandango has listed a June 4 release for Raiders of the Lost Ark! Also Fathom Events shows classic films in theatres throughout the year. Here is what they have planned so far this year: https://www.fathomevents.com/events

I did the same thing a few months ago but found a sealed copy of the UK release with slip for £10 at the weekend and I received my copies of 2-4 from HMV yesterday so I am good to go.

Warners UK just copied the “includes theatrical cut on BD” blurb from the US 4K - which did and does come with the theatrical BD - and then put a new pressing of the old-ass VC-1 DD 5.1 special edition Blu-ray in there. They didn’t even use the reauthored Anthology version

Does the special edition included with the extended cut also use the same old VC1 disc?

Hence that’s why I never bought it. WB are bloody cheap skates! The whole box set is a mess. Glad I saved my £130.00.

Watched Superman 4k to get ready for the sequels and then watched the recap of the Lester version and it looked better than what I just watched....

I do have to say I’m astonished at how many mistakes were made on this thing.
1) Replacing the loved 5.1 70mm track with the inferior 2.0 mix
2) Mixing rough demo score into the Atmos mix of Superman IV
3) Various photos of the wrong films on artwork (this is minor, but still)
4) Reauthoring the old VC-1 Blu-ray for the UK set
5) The Big One: Same problematic transfer of the original film, despite a supposed remaster/fix being either worked on or completed

Have I missed anything? Not including the Special Edition or Superman Returns is also lame but not a technical oversight from bad QC.

It's immensely frustrating. Especially since some of these issues didn't come to light until people got their sets.

You could also add dropping a ton of extras and not including both the theatrical and extended cuts of the first film in either the UK or US sets, and all the blu-rays being the old masters and not the remasters.

So, sounds like Superman II is OK?! I only want to get the UK individual release.

There's a pitch issue in the main titles.

Annoying, but that sounds pretty minor.

This set is like "death by a thousand cuts". It all adds up.
