And in all honesty it helped with the flow of the film. Trip's story helped make the film what it is.
Yes they did a live show in the real world, but at the end of the day it is what it is a Film that anyone who has a metal heart can enjoy.

Personally I thought the same of Pink Floyeds The Wall, its unterlly pointless. just an album with music video.... not entertaining.

And before I get jumped, I do like some of the songs from pink floyd...
