Back on topic, I’m planning to pick up Push tomorrow. Doesn’t look like an instant classic but it seems like a fun flick that’s worth picking up on UHD. There’s something about the format that really makes me appreciate certain films I typically would pass on (Transformers, Power Rangers, etc...) and Push looks like a fun movie to pop in on a Saturday night. |

Cap is also really good in it in one of his first seriously dramatic roles, so it's worth seeing just for that alone. It doesn't hurt that I found the transfer pretty damn impressive with great grain structure and awesome HDR implementation. It's not perfect but was pleasantly surprised after reading the less than stellar review here.

Thanks for the scan Pieter,
If you have the means and the time, could you please post some screen caps? I'd appreciate it very much! |

On the back of the 4K, the synopsis is the same as it is on the back of the standard blu-ray, but they changed the movies for 3 of the actors from "Dakota Fanning: (War of the Worlds), Chris Evans: (Fantastic Four), Djimon Honsou: (Blood Diamond)" to "Dakota Fanning: (American Pastoral), Chris Evans: (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Djimon Honsou: (Furious 7)". Thought it was weird that they listed Spider-Man: Homecoming for Chris Evans, as I thought they would put Captain America instead since that is his prominent role. But I guess they listed to the movies that they were most recently released in?

This is a pretty nice disc. I’d never seen the movie before and I liked it quite a lot. Good performances and an interesting take on the 'superhero' genre. Atmos track is excellent. Dare I say I enjoyed it more than the recent Hulk release.
This is such a stylized film with lots of effects that purposefully tweak the image that it’s a little hard gauge the PQ at times. My main gripe would be that the film is super noisy. Some scenes it appears intentional but even scenes where you’d expect to see the natural grain of something shot on film it still looks like noise, and it can get clumpy at times. Still, it is at least fairly consistent so you simply get used to it after a while. Once you look past the noise there’s a lot to like here. Good detail on the actors and environments, with lots of nice texture coming through which is a benefit to the often gritty sets. And while the film doesn’t have quite the increased depth and lush look that often comes with Dolby Vision presentations it does get quite a nice boost to colors, especially in scenes that really push vivid primary and secondary colors. In a lot of ways I feel like this is what Dredd should have looked like. There’s been so many good releases in 2018 and so many more to come that this is an easy release to overlook, but I think it’s worth checking out if you’re into the genre. It might not have the visual fidelity of recent releases like Orient Express and Greatest Showman, but I was more entertained by this and found the PQ to often be more interesting, in spite of its faults. Sometimes a little grit is better than something too clinical and sterile. Overall score: 3/5 martinis ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by bradnoyes; 04-18-2018 at 11:53 PM. |

PQ was a bit disappointing with how much noise there was but the soundtrack was pretty good. It felt like a really unique take on the superhero genre and felt like a documentary at times with the framing like when they visit the market. I had low expectations going in but I have to give it props for its originality. Overall I quite enjoyed it. I'm curious why this title doesn't really have much discussion despite it having some pretty well-known actors.
