I am guilty too I bought Batman Begins, but at this point we really need to act together to tell them we don't want this shit. I am increasingly more serious about this because these transfers are getting ****ing lazy. This is not okay.
But how will studios know that the consumers aren't buying because of a bad 4K transfer, without getting numerous complaint about it? So much easier for them to assume that perhaps the movie just wasn't popular enough, which worsens the possibility of other 4K releases. I think avoiding without saying anything will possibly hurt future catalog releases.

Paramount were worse than universal on BD, I don't think they care.

At 25 and how poorly the release seems to have been handled I probably won't bother to pick it up unless its around 15. Just don't think voting with our wallets will really do much for better transfers unless specific petitions or formal complaints are made.

Checked a few screens and it looks damn great based on those. Can't really tell if it applies to the entire film, but the shots I saw looked rather great. Resolution and grain.

Zoom in on her hair on the UHD, you can see the processing.
it looks a little like the AWiL first release.

People buy the movies they want. It’s that simple. Studios are the only ones responsible for subpar presentations. Enjoy your crusade.

Simply not buying the “subpar” releases will only make the studio think there are low sales because there’s no market.

The hair looks notably better in the UHD cap. You can even see the fine hairs there. Look at her bracelet for a even clearer element of improvement.
Not sure I like the color grading in this shot but the real detail (in this single example) is much better. Only the excessive noise has been reduced, made finer but not wiped.

It looks like they DNR'ed the shit out of it and then added fake grain.

This. I don't think anyone from the studios check these forums to see what a handful of people are complaining about.

I made this new screen right now and I agree: grain seems to be fake, not natural...

Finally got to watching this UHD tonight. Like other posters have mentioned this disc is quite inconsistent. I watched it in Dolby Vision and some scenes are more detailed than the BD and look quite superb but then you get scenes that look like a modern digital film, losing the grain and texture of the BD, and being replaced with a perfect smoothness.

Colours on the UHD fluctuate too with them being very toned down and much more natural/neutral looking for the most part. The BD looks overall warmer throughout but then sometimes the UHD colours suddenly come alive in certain scenes and look quite rich also, so it's quite a mixed bag.

The UHD is sometimes darker too. The BD is more consistent with the black levels as a couple of the darker scenes on the UHD didn't look too good IMO. Almost too dark and a bit fuzzy/noisy. Again, that's inconsistent as some night scenes looked good (Vietnam in the rain).

Dunno, can't make up my mind about this. Some areas I prefer the UHD, some the BD. Overall, I reckon the UHD will probably win for me just because of the detail increase in some areas...but still it's not as easy a call as it sounds. The rating on here of 2.5 is definitely out of whack. I can see what the reviewer is saying but 2.5 isn't right. It's hovering more around 4 for me.

I doubt if the studios check these forums, but blu-ray.com is by far the most popular site for Blu-ray and it's very possible they check the reviews here and the review here gave it only 2.5/5 for the UHD.

And I would think the engineers would let the studio execs know "Well, we did the best we could with the master we have, but this is far from the best UHD we've done".

Remember the really poor The 5th Element BD in the early days of Blu-ray? Sony made a new master and then released a much, much better BD. Somebody at Sony figured out the reason for the low sales.
